Thunder to Host Inaugural Thunder Legacy Network Weekend April 1-3

Numerous former Thunder players expected to return to Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, March 31, 2022 –The Oklahoma City Thunder will hold its first-ever Thunder Legacy Network Weekend, April 1-3, the team announced today.

“At the Thunder, we speak often about the fact that our players, both present and past, are inspiring forces to shaping our identity and integral members of our community,” Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti said. “The Thunder Legacy initiative welcomes back our former players and provides them with a connection point of recognition, while also providing them critical resources such as health screenings and continued community engagement. If you play for the Thunder for one game or your entire career, we want people to feel like they are always welcome back home and you are as much a part of our future legacy as our history.”

The weekend will see a number of former Thunder players return to Oklahoma City for a host of activities and events. During the Thunder’s contest against the Detroit Pistons on April 1, the former players will take part in an in-game recognition that will allow fans in attendance to share their appreciation for players’ contributions on and off the court.

The former players will also have the opportunity to take part in special health screenings that were organized by the Thunder and will be performed by the National Basketball Players Association during their time in Oklahoma City.  Additionally, the group will participate in a basketball clinic with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma on Saturday, April 2 at Paycom Center. Throughout the weekend there will also be special events and receptions where the Legacy members will connect with current players, coaches and staff.

The Thunder Legacy Network aims to foster a continued relationship with the former Thunder players who have helped to build the organization over time.  Participation in the Thunder Legacy Network includes those former Thunder players not currently on an active NBA roster.

Founded in 2020, the Thunder Legacy Network has engaged its former players in a number of ways, including a series of digital meetings with experts who have covered a variety of topics that are applicable to post-playing careers.
