The Milwaukee Bucks have partnered with Madison-based North Central Group (NCG) to bring a premium boutique hotel to Deer District in downtown Milwaukee. Located at Juneau Ave. and Vel R. Phillips Ave. in Deer District, directly north of the world-class Fiserv Forum, the hotel will be part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection of independently owned upscale and luxury hotels. The Bucks will lease the land to NCG, which will develop, own and operate the hotel.

“This will be one of the premier hotels in Milwaukee with an ideal location and will further enhance Deer District as a year-round destination” said Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum President Peter Feigin. “We’re grateful to work with NCG, a fantastic Wisconsin-based partner with a proven record in the hotel management industry, to bring a first-of-its-kind, preeminent boutique hotel to Deer District.” 

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Milwaukee Bucks organization to bring an exciting new hotel experience to the fabric of Deer District,” said Jeff Lenz, President & Chief Development Office for NCG. “The hotel will allow visitors and locals of Milwaukee to enjoy the best of what the area has to offer.” 

Groundbreaking for the hotel is expected to take place in Fall of 2021 with opening scheduled for early 2023. The hotel is expected to create several hundred construction jobs and approximately 100 permanent jobs.

The location of hotel within Deer District and its approximate size can be seen in renderings, however, please note these renderings do not necessarily reflect what the hotel will look like upon completion. Final design plans and a name for the hotel will be released at a later date.

The hotel will fully embrace travelers with approximately 200 smart and stylish tech-enabled rooms featuring mobile check in and check out, keyless entry, motion sensor lighting, internet TV in-room featuring Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Pandora and Crackle, abundant power and USB outlets, and furiously fast and free Wi-Fi for ultimate connectivity.

The public spaces of the hotel will include multiple food and beverage options that cater to the guests and the public, including an elevated restaurant and bar/lounge area, meeting spaces, and an outdoor terrace and plaza area.

Cream City Cluckery, a new delivery and pickup-only restaurant in Deer District specializing in chef-crafted crispy chicken tenders and house-made sauces, opens tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8. Featuring a simple menu that uses 100% premium, locally-sourced ingredients, Cream City Cluckery focuses on “hot, fresh and fast” for its made-from-scratch recipes that are curated by Fiserv Forum Senior Executive Chef Kenneth Hardiman. 

“We are excited to offer made-from-scratch chicken tenders to the local area in a convenient way,” said Hardiman.

In addition to chef-crafted tenders and house-made sauces, Cream City Cluckery is also serving up mac and cheese, honey butter biscuits and “Ooey Gooey Butter Cake,” among other items. The full menu can be found on the restaurant’s website, www.creamcitycluckery.com.

In its commitment to giving back to the community, Cream City Cluckery will be donating a share of the proceeds of each “Ooey Gooey Butter Cake” sold to the Milwaukee Bucks Foundation.

Cream City Cluckery Opens Tomorrow in Deer District

The MECCA Sports Bar and Grill and The Beer Garden will reopen in Deer District on Friday, June 12 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Both establishments will be open at 25 percent capacity for in-person service, per city mandates. 

Both establishments have implemented multiple new guidelines to ensure the highest health standards after the temporary closures due to COVID-19. Additionally, there are new menus, including for kids and those with allergies, touchless payment options, expanded indoor and outdoor dining space, and curbside pickup.  

“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority while reopening The MECCA Sports Bar and Grill and The Beer Garden,” said Michael Belot, Senior Vice President of Bucks Ventures and Development. “We look forward to welcoming back our guests under these new guidelines and providing them with a safe and healthy environment and a great experience to dine and watch sports.”  

Precautions include cloth masks worn by employees, the removal of tables to meet social distancing guidelines, touchless payment options, and wipeable menus. Prior to the reopening, all employees were required to complete an extensive online training program to learn more about COVID-19, how it spreads, and the new protocols put into place. Management will demonstrate the procedures in person once employees are back on-site.  

Guests can expect to be seated at a table or the bar by a host or hostess. They will be served by the same waiter, waitress or bartender to limit the number of touchpoints and will receive refills in new glasses. There will be no standing room at the bar. 

Guests at The MECCA are encouraged to wear masks except when eating or drinking. Patrons of The Beer Garden are encouraged but not required to wear masks unless otherwise dictated by the government. 

Team members will wear gloves and change them frequently, and gloves will always be worn while preparing food. Employees will wash their hands frequently, and there will be designated entry and exit points in the kitchen to limit crowding.

Team members will answer health questionnaires at the start of each shift, and they will have their temperatures checked. Anyone with a temperature above 100.3 will be sent home.

No condiments will be left on tables, and tables will be fully disinfected frequently. High-touch areas will be disinfected throughout the day, and a timer will indicate when soda machines need to be cleaned and disinfected after every 30 minutes. 

More guidelines include propping open the front doors during business hours to avoid touching; enforcing restroom capacity limits; and placing a sanitization station at the entrances. 

Signage will be added to the entrances of The MECCA and The Beer Garden indicating the guidelines within each location. Guests should not go out if they are feeling ill.

The MECCA will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to close, and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Beer Garden will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

The MECCA will boast a new menu featuring items like Carolina Dog, a Klement’s all-beef, foot-long hot dog, chili, slaw and onion; Chicken Ranch BLT; Blackened Mahi Sandwich; Jumbo Veggie Quesadilla; and new cocktails such as the MECCA-tini and Strawberry Basil Smash. Guests will continue to find favorites like MECCA Burger, WI Grilled Cheese and Wings on the menu. 

The new kid menu consists of 2-Piece Chicken Tenders, Fish Fry, Cheeseburger, Grilled Cheese and Grilled Chicken – all of which are served with a salad, fries or chips. The new allergy menu includes nut-free and dairy-free items such as the Chili Burger, Southwest Salad and Blackened Fish Sandwich.  

The MECCA will also offer curbside pickup, where managers will deliver the food in a closed bag to the customer’s vehicle while wearing a mask and gloves. Delivery options will become available in the coming weeks. 

The Beer Garden will feature 20 tap beer lines consisting of domestic and craft beer selections; a selection of packaged beers, seltzers and sodas; the MKEat Food Truck; and popcorn and snacks. The MKEat Food Truck, which is available for private events, will offer a seasonal menu created by The MECCA chef that consists of MECCA Backyard Chips, Street Fries, Asian Sticky Ribs, Milwaukee Dog and Cheddar-Burger. 

In addition to The MECCA and The Beer Garden, Insomnia Cookies and Drink Wisconsinbly in Deer District are open. Insomnia Cookies is open daily for delivery and pick-up, and Drink Wisconsinbly is open daily to limited capacity and features an extended patio.

Insomnia Cookies, a bakery specializing in warm cookie deliveries daily until 3 a.m., will open at Deer District in the spring. The 1,284-square-foot store will be located at 1110 N. Old World 3rd St. next to The Beer Garden. The Deer District site marks Insomnia Cookies’ third Milwaukee location and fifth in Wisconsin.

Insomnia Cookies Coming to Deer District in Spring 2020

The Chords & Curds Festival taking place on  Saturday, Aug. 24 on the plaza at Fiserv Forum will feature headliners Angie  Swan, a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, from 8 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. and New  Age Narcissism, a dance/R&B group, from 9:45 p.m. - 11:15 p.m. The all-day  fest dedicated to local music, food and artisans will begin with a special  performance by The Milwaukee Public Schools Community Gospel Choir from noon-1  p.m.

Additionally, Chords & Curds will showcase  special guest DJs as part of Hip-Hop Week MKE, running from Aug. 19-25. Those  DJs are The Midwest Mixer Dr. B, DJ NuStylez and DJ Bizzon.

Chords & Curds is hosted and produced by  Fiserv Forum and Deer District. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and tickets are  available now at FiservForum.com and the Fiserv Forum  Ticket Office.

Admission to Chords & Curds Festival is $10  for adults and $5 for children under 12 and people over 65. The exclusive VIP  experience is $75 and includes a fast lane exclusive entrance into the  festival, a private, air-conditioned area, brunch offered from noon – 3 p.m.,  dinner offered from 6 to 9 p.m., and unlimited beer, wine and soft  drinks. 

The “Gospel Brunch” menu is available for anyone  with a VIP ticket as part of the hospitality and VIP experience. Chords & Curds ticket proceeds will benefit  the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, one of the nation’s fastest-growing  community music schools.
