Moses Moody led a fourth-quarter surge with 12 of his team-high 18 points in the final frame, but ultimately, the Warriors dropped their preseason finale against the San Antonio Spurs 122-117 on Friday at Chase Center. This was their only preseason loss, after winning their previous four games. The Warriors rallied to cut a once 18-point deficit to three but ultimately couldn't close the gap any further.

CURRY TIPS OFF AGAINST 7’4 WEMBANYAMAAt 7'4 with an eight-foot wingspan, rookie Victor Wembanyama, the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, is one of the league's tallest players. In a clash of David vs. Goliath, 6'3 guard Stephen Curry, with a big grin on his face, squared off against Wembenyama for the opening tipoff. Curry did his best, but the height disadvantage was far too much to overcome.

Wembanyama set an early tone for the Spurs in his first game at Chase Center with 12 points and three blocks in the first quarter alone. He led all scorers with 19 points and blocked a game-high five shots in just under 21 minutes of action.

On the other hand, Curry cooled off after his 30-point explosion on Wednesday, scoring 11 points on 11 shots in 20 minutes.

KUMINGA FINISHES PRESEASON STRONGJonathan Kuminga led the Warriors in scoring in each of their first three preseason games. On Friday, Kuminga started strong with 12 first-half points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting. With 8:35 remaining in the second quarter, he used ample arc to hit a fadeaway jumper over the outstretched arms of Wembanyama after freeing himself with a spin move.&nbsp;

Kuminga finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists in 21 minutes.

ŠARIĆ'S EFFICIENT SHOOTINGDario Šarić came within one point of the team-high in scoring with 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting in 21 minutes. Šarić also joined Moody (4-of-6 from three) as the only Warriors to make multiple 3-pointers, hitting 2-of-4 form downtown.

UP NEXT&nbsp;After finishing 4-1 in the preseason, the Warriors will host the Phoenix Suns in the regular season opener on Oct. 24.

Warriors Preseason Winning Streak Snapped by Spurs in Finale

A recent nba.com General Manager survey named Stephen Curry the player league executives most want to take the final shot with the game on the line. In Wednesday's thrilling 116-115 victory over the Kings, Curry didn't just take the Warriors’ last shot — he took and made all the pivotal shots down the stretch to pull off an improbable 18-point comeback. He out-dueled the NBA's reigning Clutch Player of the Year, De'Aaron Fox, with 16 points in the fourth quarter (13 in the final two minutes) and hit all four of his 3-pointers, including the game-winner.

“It’s time to go home and put the kids to bed,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area following his walkoff shot and signature 'Night Night' celebration.

The two-time MVP had 14 points through three quarters and checked into the fourth with 7:18 remaining and facing a double-digit deficit.

On his first offensive possession of the quarter, Curry used a crafty behind-the-back dribble to evade pesky defender Davion Mitchell, avoided the screen Moses Moody was prepared to set and attacked the center of the defense. He then hit Tayce Jackson-Davis with a timely bounce pass for a dunk.

Still trailing by 10 with 4:46 left, he splashed in a 3-pointer over Fox despite contact on his right shooting shoulder.

Fast forward to two minutes remaining and the Dubs had cut the deficit to seven. It was now or never if the Warriors were going to make a late push in a game that Curry would later call “a dress rehearsal” for the regular season. Chris Paul walked the ball across the timeline and set up the offense. Curry used an off-ball screen from Dario Šarić and flashed to the left wing. Paul found him, and Curry used a ball fake, getting Kevin Huerter in the air before calmly hitting the trey — four-point game.

After a defensive stop, Curry and Paul were again in tandem. This time, the Splash Brother took the 6'7 Huerter in the post, hitting a fall-away Dirk Nowitzki-esque one-foot jumper over the larger defender — one-possession game.

On the other end, Fox, who also had 14 points going into the fourth, converted a driving layup, giving him 11 in the quarter and 25 for the game — Kings up by four, timeout Warriors.

Curry wasted no time following the timeout, banking in a three despite being swarmed by two Kings defenders and joyfully celebrated down the court. This game still had a long way to go, however.

Mitchell missed his 3-point attempt and Šarić recovered the loose ball and was fouled by Domantas Sabonis, with the Dubs in the bonus. He missed both free throws and it was the Warriors who were left hoping for a miss.

Huerter obliged, missing his second free throw, giving the Dubs a chance to tie or take the lead.

Isolated against Fox, Curry caught him leaning with a step-back and launched from well beyond the 3-point line — all net.

“The fourth quarter was exactly what it was supposed to look like," Curry said postgame.

He mentioned liking having a floor general like Chris Paul who could control the flow of the offense, allowing the Splash Brother to hunt for his shot and free himself open off-ball.

Even though it was a preseason game and the Warriors had already won three, building those winning habits and fighting until the end was about molding the team's identity for this season.

“Everything we do in the preseason is trying to develop an identity,” Curry said. “We all want to win and that’s the bottom line.”

The Warriors will look to remain undefeated this preseason when they host the Spurs on Friday in their final tune-up before the regular season tips off on Opening Night at home on Tuesday against the Suns.

Stephen Curry sized up De'Aaron Fox and splashed in the game-winning 3-pointer to propel the Warriors to a 116-115 victory over the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center on Wednesday. The Dubs trailed by 13 entering the final frame and went nuclear —scoring 40 fourth-quarter points — paced by Curry's 16 points and four splashes. Curry capped the night with his signature 'Night Night' celebration, putting the Kings to sleep like he did to close Game 7 of the 2023 Western Conference Quarterfinals with the first-ever Game 7 50-piece.

The Warriors are a perfect 4-0 so far this preseason and have one final game against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday (7:00 p.m.; NBATV).

CURRY'S INCREDIBLE NIGHTCurry led all scorers with 30 points and eight made threes in 31 minutes. He was extremely efficient, shooting 10-for-18 from the floor and 8-for-12 from behind the arc. Down the stretch, the offense ran through Curry and Chris Paul. With 6.4 seconds remaining and Paul inbounding, the two-time MVP took the ball and isolated himself on the right wing against De'Aaron Fox. He got Fox leaning with a stepback move and hit the rainbow 3-pointer. Curry seemed to know the shot was good the second it left his hands, walking back with a swagger after he released, sticking his tongue out and turning to the roaring Chase Center crowd.

FIRST GAME OF SIXTH MAN CP3The Warriors elected to bring Paul off the bench on Wednesday for the first time since his arrival to the Bay. Paul didn't play in the previous preseason matchup against the Kings on Sunday but started in both prior games against the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran point guard, entering his 19th NBA season, has never come off the bench in his career.

Head Coach Steve Kerr gave insight into his decision to bring Paul off the bench pregame, sharing that he wanted to encourage the 12-time All-Star to be himself.

“I told him we need him to be himself," Kerr said. "He’s trying to fit in; sometimes we need him to take four mid-range jumpers in a row.”

Kerr also shared that nothing is set in stone and that he'll likely experiment with another lineup combination for Friday's preseason finale against the Spurs. He has appreciated Paul's approach to training camp and noted his desire to win and "be a part of something special."

On Wednesday, Paul checked in with 7:51 remaining in the first quarter and the Dubs were down by seven. The Warriors would subsequently go on a 10-2 run and the floor general was right in the middle of the action.

With 5:18 remaining in the first, Paul found Curry for a 3-pointer off a double drag screen. On the ensuing possession, he pushed the pace after a Kings turnover and hit Curry, who used his downhill speed to attack the paint and feed Trayce Jackson-Davis for a two-hand slam.

Postgame Warriors Talks

Paul finished with 13 points, a game-high nine assists, six rebounds and went 3-for-3 from behind the arc in 29 minutes. He tied Andrew Wiggins for the game-high in plus-minus (+9).

ŠARIĆ SCREEN AND SCORE ACTIONPaul playing with the second unit opened up many more opportunities for the two-man game between him and Dario Šarić. The two former Phoenix Suns teammates already have a great rapport, which was on display on Wednesday. Šarić set lots of high ball screens for Paul in which he either rolled to the basket, popped out for a 3-pointer, or looked to make a play for a teammate. Four of his six field goals were from him rolling to the rim and assisted by Paul.&nbsp;Šarić led all reserves with 14 points and six rebounds (tied with Paul) in 28 minutes.

JACKSON-DAVIS' FIRST STARTRookie center Trayce Jackson-Davis was pivotal down the stretch of the Dubs' overtime victory in Sacramento on Sunday. NEW STARTING FIVE&nbsp;For the first time this preseason, the Warriors trotted out a new starting lineup on Sunday. With Stephen Curry and Chris Paul inactive, the Dubs inserted Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski into the first five. Kuminga led the team in scoring in their first two contests (24 points on Oct. 7, 26 points on Oct. 15) and Podziemski was coming off a double-double (10 points, 10 assists) against the Lakers on Friday.&nbsp;

Kuminga scored 28 points in 34 minutes, while Podziemski scored four points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists in 31 minutes.

THOMPSON STEPS UPMissing a combined 21 All-Star appearances in the backcourt in Curry and Paul's absence, five-time All-Star Klay Thompson left his imprint on the game early. Thompson was an early offensive focal point, scoring nine of the Warriors' first 18 points. Each of his first three baskets had a high degree of difficulty. He got the Dubs in the score column with a heavily contested fadeaway three from the right corner. Thompson again operated on the right side of the court for his second bucket, spinning into another fadeaway jumper. Then, without taking a dribble, he curled from the right side to the left for a left-wing triple in Malik Monk's face.&nbsp;

Thompson finished with 12 points, three assists and was a plus-seven in 16 minutes of action.

LOONEY CONTINUES REBOUNDING WAYS AGAINST KINGSKevon Looney was the leading rebounder in 5-of-7 games during the Warriors vs. Kings 2023 first-round series, including three games in which he eclipsed 20 rebounds. In Sunday's preseason matchup, Looney grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass in 23 minutes. His rebounding was instrumental in the Warriors advancing to the second round last season — he will look to continue being one of the league's most effective on the glass this season.&nbsp;

Kuminga Becomes Preseason's Top Scorer in Overtime Win Over Kings

Jonathan Kuminga was again the leading scorer as the Warriors took both preseason games against the Lakers, winning 129-125 in Los Angeles on Friday.

With 32 seconds remaining and facing a one-point deficit, rookie center Trayce Jackson-Davis followed up Brandin Podziemski's missed 3-point attempt with a putback layup. Then, on the other end, he rejected Jalen Hood-Schifino's layup attempt to maintain the lead. Two free throws from Kuminga and one from Podziemski ultimately sealed the game.

The Warriors are now 2-0 in preseason play, while the Lakers move to 2-2 — both losses coming against the Dubs.

STARS IN ACTION&nbsp;Stephen Curry led all starters with 18 points in 20 minutes on 5-for-8 shooting. After playing exclusively in the first half during the opener, four of five Warriors' starters — excluding Kevon Looney — played until midway through the third quarter. For the Lakers, all five starters scored in double figures — including LeBron James (12 points) and Austin Reaves (16 points)— who didn't play in their first head-to-head meeting.

HOT START IN HOLLYWOOD3-Pointers by Austin Reaves and D'Angelo Russell gave the Lakers an early 6-0 lead, but the Warriors quickly responded with a 13-0 run of their own. Stephen Curry opened the run, using a high ball screen to hit a rainbow 3-pointer and capped the run after freeing himself off-ball with a look-away splash. The Warriors went a perfect 5-for-5 during this stretch, including five points from Andrew Wiggins and a layup from Kevon Looney.

The athletic forward had a highlight jam in the previous game and had another aerial highlight on Friday. In the second quarter, Kuminga used a jab and his quick first step to blow past LeBron James and explode to the rim for a two-hand tomahawk slam.

“I liked his (Kuminga's) aggressiveness," Head Coach Steve Kerr said. "He shot the ball with a lot of confidence and had eight rebounds, so he was much more active on the glass. We want that to continue. He showed his athleticism and did a good job.”

Rebounding has been an emphasis for Kuminga, who grabbed all eight of his rebounds on the defensive glass.

"That’s something I’ve been consistently working on,” Kuminga said. “I’m working on being in the mix every time.”

He already has the athleticism and physical tools to be an effective rebounder but understands that rebounding also involves effort, technique and a quick reaction time.

In the first quarter, Kuminga bodied up the taller Lakers' big man Christian Wood, forcing a miss. After securing the rebound, he threw a cross-court laser pass to rookie Brandin Podziemski, who quickly converted a layup on the other end.

Another aspect of Kuminga rounding out his game is his growth as a perimeter shooter. After shooting 33.6 percent from deep in his rookie season, he rose to 37.0 percent on roughly the same volume last season. Kuminga shot 4-for-8 (50 percent) from three on Saturday, with a combined one dribble before all of his makes. Three of those 3-pointers were strictly catch-and-shoot and his lone dribble was purely to get a step closer to the 3-point line.

“My shot felt good, I feel comfortable shooting," Kuminga said. "Picking up knowledge from some of the best shooters in the world.”

Coach Kerr said he viewed Kuminga as exclusively a power forward last season due to spacing concerns that may present themselves without a floor-spacing big. With the addition of Dario Šarić and the potential for more spacing from Kuminga, Kerr said he expects more flexibility with how he can use the 6'8 forward.

"You could definitely play JK with a shooting big," Kerr said. "But it was tougher to play him last year with Draymond and Loon. You just don't get the spacing that you would optimally like to have. I think we have more possibilities this year with Dario because of Dario's ability to pass and space the floor as a big."

On Saturday, Kuminga shot 4-for-6 from inside the arc and 4-for-5 from the free throw line. His most electrifying play came in the fourth quarter when he caught a lob from Kendric Davis and slammed in the dunk.

With the addition of Chris Paul, one of the league's top assist guys, particularly on lobs, Kuminga's athletic ability as a vertical spacer can be amplified. Although the two didn't share the court on Saturday, they have been working together for much of training camp.

Kuminga shared postgame that Paul and veteran forward Rudy Gay have taken on a “bigger brother” leadership role for him that Andre Iguodala held in his first two seasons.

The Dubs would build an 18-point lead in the second quarter and gained a 19-point second-half advantage after the starters exited. Every player that entered the game for the Warriors had a positive plus-minus.

PODZIEMSKI'S FIRST ACTIONRookie Brandin Podziemski was effective on both ends of the floor. Podziemski picked up fullcourt defensively, showcasing his on-ball instincts and ability to read passing lanes. Offensively, he was aggressive, looking for his own shot. Podziemski hit Taurean Prince with a euro-step move for his first basket and finished at the rim.

Late in the first quarter, he was guarding the Lakers' rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, who was selected two picks ahead in the 2023 draft. Podziemski stole Hood-Schifino's pass attempt, hitting a streaking Gary Payton II with a football-style dime from beyond halfcourt. Late in the second quarter, the rookie guard sized up Rui Hachimura and sank his first preseason splash. Podziemski finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes.

NEW VETS FIT RIGHT INChris Paul and Dario Šarić each got a feel for their new roles on their new team. Paul started the game and was able to vary the flow, pushing the pace when the team had a numbers advantage and slowing it down when they didn't. Paul made timely reads in transition and the halfcourt, finding the open shooter early and often. He had a team-high five assists to accompany his six points and four rebounds in 13 minutes of action.

Dario Šarić stepped into the backup center role, hitting an early trail 3-pointer — one of his two threes in the game — highlighting his ability to space the floor. Like forward Draymond Green, a big man who often initiates the offense, Šarić played a facilitator role often with the second unit, bringing the ball up and setting up dribble handoffs. Šarić had six points, four rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes.

Jonathan Kuminga Leads Warriors to Preseason Victory over Lakers

When the Warriors' preseason slate begins on Oct. 7, the Dubs will kick off their 2023-24 campaign by revisiting some competitive playoff battles from the previous season.

In their first four matchups, the Warriors will play two games against the Los Angeles Lakers (Oct. 7, Oct. 13) and two against the Sacramento Kings (Oct 15, Oct 18). The Warriors will host the Lakers on Oct. 7 and the Kings on Oct. 18. The Lakers defeated the Dubs in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals 4-2, while the Warriors beat the Kings in the first round 4-3.

The Lakers retained most of their core this offseason, re-signing guard Austin Reaves, guard D'Angelo Russell and forward Rui Hachimura. The Kings' core also remains intact as they signed All-NBA forward Domantas Sabonis to a multi-year extension while re-signing center Alex Len and forward Trey Lyles. In their final preseason game, the Warriors will host the San Antonio Spurs. After securing the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Spurs drafted 7'5 prospect Victor Wembenyama from France. Wembenyama averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in two summer league games in Las Vegas. Wembenyama's first scheduled game at Chase Center will be on Oct. 20.

Paper Plane Klay Bobblehead Night on Oct. 20

The Warriors will have bobblehead nights for their final two preseason home games (against the Kings and Spurs), where fans in attendance will receive uniquely themed bobbleheads catered to the Splash Brothers. Oct. 18 is Stephen Curry College Grad bobblehead night and Oct. 20 is Paper Plane Klay bobblehead night.
