Minneapolis-St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has exercised team options on guard Jaylen Nowell and center Naz Reid.&nbsp;

Nowell, 22, enters his fourth season in the NBA after appearing in a career-high 62 games (one start) in 2021-22, averaging 8.5 points on a career-best 47.5% shooting from the field, 2.0 rebounds and a career-high 2.1 assists per game. In the Dec. 27 victory over the Boston Celtics, Nowell played a career-high 34:41 minutes off the bench, scoring a career-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including a career-high-tying 6-of-9 from three and grabbed a career-high-tying six rebounds. The Seattle native has appeared in 119 career games with the Timberwolves (one start), holding averages of 8.1 points on 44.6% shooting, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Reid, 22, wrapped up his third season in the NBA last year, appearing in a career-high 77 games (six starts) with averages of 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. During the 2021-22 season, Reid recorded four double-doubles, including tallying his first career 20+ point/10+ rebound game on Jan. 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers, leading the way for the Wolves, scoring a season-high 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting while grabbing a season-high 11 rebounds, including a career-high-tying five offensive boards. The Asbury Park, N,J. native saw action in his first career playoff games last season, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in five contests against the Memphis Grizzlies. Reid has played in 177 career games (32 starts), while averaging 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game.

Minneapolis-St. Paul – ESPN announced Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was named a finalist for the 2022 Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award. This year, the Sports Humanitarian Awards will combine with The 2022 ESPYS Presented by Capitol One for a week of inspirational programming that showcases service, character and achievement in sports.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In its eighth year, the annual Sports Humanitarian Awards is a celebration of the impact made by athletes, teams and sports industry professionals who are using sports to make a difference in their communities and throughout the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“This is an extremely humbling honor to be named a Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award finalist,” said Towns. “Ali was a true change agent and humanitarian in every sense of the word; a social force who fought for the marginalized and inspired much of my community activism. I am honored to be among this list of athletes doing impactful and inspirational work.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Towns has always devoted his time, platform and resources to health equity and education. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic he became a prominent advocate for vaccine education following the loss of his mother, Jacqueline Towns and worked closely with the NBA for the league’s vaccine PSA. In collaboration with Cue Health, Towns provided 100 COVID-19 testing kits to more than 50 schools in both new Jersey and Minnesota, and worked with Walgreens on their Get a Shot, Give a Shot campaign to promote flu shots and help ensure access to anyone who wants one via a $5,000 donation.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

In July 2021, Towns donated $20,000 to the George Floyd Memorial Foundation in partnership with JD Sports and attended rallies throughout the Minneapolis community. As part of his Celebrity Wheel of Fortune appearance, Towns selected Vera Institute of Justice as his beneficiary, making a $30,000 donation. Vera Institute of Justice works to end the overcriminalization and mass incarceration of people of color, immigrants and people experiencing poverty. Towns continues to serve as a board member of the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition.&nbsp;

Gender equity and access for women in sports is another pillar of work Towns is passionate about. Last year, Towns made a donation to Kean University in New Jersey to support programming for their women student athletes highlighting empowerment and internships and named the series in honor of his late mother. The campus court at Kean University is also named in her honor, the Jacqueline Towns Court.&nbsp;

Towns was previously named a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion finalist by the NBA as part of the league’s annual awards.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anthony Barr (NFL Free Agent), Albert Pujols (St. Louis Cardinals) and Brad Stuver (Austin FC) join Towns as this year’s four Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award finalists. The ESPYS will air live on ABC on July 20 at 7:00 p.m. CT.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

As you know, the first rule of draft trades is you do not talk about draft trades. Until trade calls are completed everyone has to pretend that it didn’t happen. That means picks put on hats for teams they won’t be joining, teams tweet out welcome messages that go crazy in the comments and awkward interviews happen…. like Walker Kessler having to answer questions about playing with Ja Morant:

Everything You Need to Know About Last Night’s Draft

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has acquired a second-round pick of the 2026 draft and cash considerations from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the draft rights of the 48th pick forward Kendall Brown in the 2022 NBA Draft.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brown, a 6-8 forward, averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game as a freshman at Baylor University. The Minnesota native started all 34 games for the Bears and connected on 58.4% from the field on 132-of-226 shooting, helping Baylor be named Big 12 regular-season co-champion and earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He was named Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament Team, connecting on 16-of-21 shooting and averaging 12.0 points over the tournament to lift the Bears to a championship. The 19-year-old became the first player in Baylor history to be named Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has acquired the draft rights to the 45th pick forward Josh Minott and a 2023 second round pick from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for the 40th selection guard Bryce McGowens.

Minott, 6-8, averaged 6.6 points on 52.2% shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. As a freshman, Minott appeared in all 33 games (five starts) for the University of Memphis.

The 20-year-old recorded two double-doubles, with his first one coming off 14 points and 10 rebounds on Jan. 9, 2022 against Cincinnati. His second double-double came on Jan. 27, 2022 when he registered 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against East Carolina.

The Boca Raton, Fla. native earned a 2021-22 AAC All-Freshman Team nod and was named AAC Freshman of the Week twice throughout the season.

Minott help lead his high school, St. Andrews, to its first state basketball championship as a junior in 2019-2020. He was named the Palm Beach 5A-1A Player of the Year by the South Florida Sun Sentinel after his senior season.
