Mo Bamba Signs with Sixers

PHILADELPHIA – JULY 9, 2023 - Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed Mo Bamba. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bamba, an alumnus of Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, joins Philadelphia after playing for both the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers in 2022-23, averaging 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds.

He also shot a combined 38.7% from three last season, marking a career high.

Through five NBA seasons, Bamba holds averages of 7.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots in 275 games between Orlando and Los Angeles.

Since entering the league, Bamba is one of 15 players in the league with at least 2,000 points, 365 blocks and 100 steals, and has done so in the fewest minutes played.

In his lone collegiate season at the University of Texas, Bamba averaged 12.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.7 blocks while shooting 54.1% from the floor. He led the Big 12 in rebounding and blocks per game while also ranking second in the nation in rejections and double-doubles (15). These numbers led him to being named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team, the All-Big 12 Second Team and the All- Big 12 Freshman Team.

During his time at Westtown he helped claim back-to-back Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association state championships in his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he was a finalist for the Naismith National Player of the Year with averages of 12.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks en route to named both a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All-American.
