AVERAGED CAREER HIGHS IN POINTS, REBOUNDS, ASSISTS, AND STEALS IN FOURTH NBA SEASON

PHILADELPHIA – APRIL 23, 2024 – The NBA announced today that first-time All-Star Tyrese Maxey has been named the 2023-24 Kia NBA Most Improved Player. Maxey becomes the second player in franchise history to earn the honor, joining Dana Barros in 1994-95.

The Most Improved Player award is a testament to your incredible work ethic including countless early mornings in the gym perfecting your craft,” Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey said. “Your journey to All-Star in just your fourth season is inspirational to everyone who watches you play. Your dedication to continuous improvement and excellence has you on the path from MIP to MVP.”

In his fourth NBA season, Maxey’s statistical leap included becoming a top-11 scorer in the NBA as his average jumped from 20.3 in 2022-23 to 25.9 in 2023-24. Maxey also boosted his rebounding average to 3.7, assists to 6.2, and steals to 1.0, with each mark representing a career high.

“Tyrese is a tireless worker who has elevated his game to an All-Star level in a short period of time. In my years of coaching against him and our one year together so far, it is clear that he brings a special joy and energy to the game of basketball and his enthusiasm and work ethic will continue to lift his game for years to come,” said Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Nick Nurse.

Maxey averaged just 1.7 turnovers this season, joining Dallas’ Kyrie Irving (also 2023-24) as the only two players in league history to average at least 25.0 points and 5.0 assists with fewer than 2.0 turnovers for a full campaign.

He was one of just nine NBA players this season to rank within the league’s top-20 in both points (11th) and assists (20th). Maxey joined Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, New York’s Jalen Brunson, Dallas’ Luka Dončić, Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Lakers’ LeBron James, and Denver’s Nikola Jokić as the only players to do so this past season.

Maxey’s increase of 5.6 PPG from last season is the largest by any player who also averaged 20-plus in 2022-23. This scoring average jump makes him one of seven players aged 23-or-younger to raise their average by at least 5.0 points since the NBA-ABA merger after averaging at least 20.0 the season prior.

Maxey’s three 50-point outings were tied for the most in the NBA lead this season, and were punctuated by a career-high 52-point performance on April 7 at San Antonio.

In 70 games, Maxey recorded 22 games of at least 30 points this season after combining for 14 across his first three NBA campaigns (196 total games).

The 76ers concluded the season with a 47-35 record, representing Philadelphia’s seventh consecutive winning regular season. This is the franchise’s longest such streak since posting 12 consecutive winning seasons from 1975-87.

PHILADELPHIA – APRIL 13, 2024 - Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed Ricky Council IV to a standard NBA contract.

Originally signed to a two-way contract prior to this season, Council IV has appeared in 31 games as a rookie with the 76ers, averaging 5.5 points on 48.2-percent shooting and 1.4 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game. He has logged at least 10 minutes of action in 11 of his 31 appearances, producing 10.5 points on 54.2-percent shooting in those contests.

Council IV has tallied at least 10 points on eight occasions, including a career-best 19-point, 10-rebound performance at Washington on Feb 10. He became the seventh rookie in franchise history – and the first since Dario Šarić in 2017 – to produce at least 19 points and 10 boards off the bench.

In 27 games with Philadelphia’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, Council IV recorded 23.8 points on 47.3-percent shooting, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. He reached the 30-point mark on five occasions and connected on at least three triples 12 times.

Last season, Council IV appeared in 36 games (29 starts) collegiately for the University of Arkansas, where he ranked fifth in the Southeastern Conference with a team-high 16.1 points to go along with 3.6 rebounds. The All-SEC Second Team selection scored in double figures in 31 of his appearances this season.

The Razorbacks earned a No. 8 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, upsetting No. 1-seeded Kansas in the second round to reach the Sweet Sixteen.&nbsp;

The Philadelphia 76ers honored Allen Iverson on April 12, 2024 with a sculpture unveiling ceremony on Legends Walk at the Penn Medicine Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex.

Iverson, former NBA MVP and 11-time NBA All-Star, is regarded as one of the best scorers the NBA has ever seen.

PHILADELPHIA – APRIL 4, 2024 -&nbsp;Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl&nbsp;Morey announced today that the team has signed&nbsp;Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a standard NBA contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dowtin Jr. originally signed a two-way contract with Philadelphia on March 2. Since then, he has appeared in seven games with the 76ers, averaging 4.4 points on 50-percent shooting from three-point range, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 12.3 minutes of action.

In the midst of his third professional season, Dowtin Jr. recently scored a career-high 12 points (4-5 FG, 2-3 3FG) versus Phoenix on March 20. He also recorded a career-high six assists and tied a career-best with three steals against Memphis on March 6.

Dowtin Jr. suited up for the 76ers’ G League affiliate, Delaware Blue Coats, in 20 regular-season games, averaging 19.1 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.2 steals. He was one of just 10 G League players with such averages in the regular season.

Most recently, Dowtin Jr. scored a G League career-best 41 points (14-21 FG, 4-8 3FG) on Thursday against the Maine Celtics. He added seven rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and two blocked shots in the second round of the G League playoffs.

This performance marked his 13th 20-plus point contest in his 22 games with the Blue Coats (regular season and playoffs).

Overall, Dowtin Jr. holds NBA averages of 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 11.0 minutes per game across 41 contests with Orlando, Milwaukee, Golden State, Toronto, and Philadelphia. Dowtin Jr. originally signed with the G League’s Lakeland Magic following the 2020 NBA Draft, helping the team to the 2021 NBA G League title. He made his NBA debut the ensuing season with Golden State on Nov. 3, 2021.

PHILADELPHIA – MARCH 24, 2024 – Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed D.J. Wilson to a 10-day contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wilson, the No. 17 overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft by Milwaukee, joins Philadelphia after appearing in 146 career NBA games (six starts) for the Bucks, Houston, and Toronto across five seasons. He holds averages 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Wilson has five-plus seasons of G League experience, tallying 71 regular-season games (65 starts) with Wisconsin, Oklahoma City, and Osceola, averaging 19.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 blocked shots in 31.7 minutes per contest.

In 27 appearances this season with Osceola, Wilson has helped lead the team to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with averages of 21.0 points on 57.4-percent shooting. His stat line also includes 9.9 rebounds (seventh in G League), 5.0 assists, along with 1.6 rejections per game. He is the lone G League player this regular season with such averages.

Wilson has recorded five 30-point games and four 30-point double-doubles so far this season. These outings were highlighted by back-to-back 35-point performances on Feb. 27 against Salt Lake City and March 3 versus Delaware. He added 13 rebounds and seven assists against the Blue Coats.

Collegiately, Wilson played three seasons for the University of Michigan. During his tenure, he helped Michigan to a Big Ten Tournament championship and an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. He posted a combined 15.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over seven games in both tournaments.

Originally selected by New York with the No. 19 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Jones’ draft rights were subsequently traded to Charlotte. He’s played in 67 career NBA games for the Hornets, averaging 2.7 points on 56.7-percent shooting and 2.0 rebounds. Jones scored in double figures four times for the Hornets last season, including his first career double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds) against Oklahoma City on March 28, 2023.

Jones also saw action in 38 games (37 starts) over the last two seasons with Charlotte’s G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, averaging 17.2 points on 65.8-percent shooting. He added 10.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 blocked shots in 30.3 minutes per game. Jones’ 74.4-percent field-goal percentage led all G League players in 2022-23.

Collegiately, Jones appeared in 53 games (14 starts) with averages of 6.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 19.7 minutes per game across two seasons at the University of Texas. Following his sophomore season, the Bahamas native became the first Longhorn to earn the Big 12 Conference’s Sixth Man of the Year award.
