Hornets NBA Pre-Draft Workouts – June 17

NBA Pre-Draft Workout Recap | 6/17/22

In preparation for the 2022 NBA Draft on June 23, the Charlotte Hornets hosted a pre-draft workout on Friday, June 17 featuring the following players:

  • MarJon Beauchamp (G, G League Ignite)
  • Beauchamp (6-7, 195) put up 15.1 points on 51.2% shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 24 total outings (23 starts) for the G League Ignite this past season. The 21-year-old played high school basketball in the Seattle area (Hale, Garfield, Rainer Beach), averaged 30.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 12 games for Yakima Valley Community College (WA) during the 2020-21 season and participated in the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend in Cleveland back in February.
  • Malaki Branham (G, Ohio State)
  • The 2022 Big 10 Freshman of the Year (6-6, 195) averaged 13.7 points on 49.8% shooting – 41.6% from 3-point range (37-of-89) – 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 32 appearances (31 starts) this past season. An alum of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, OH, Branham also earned Third-Team All-Big 10 honors, becoming the first Buckeye freshman to do so since D’Angelo Russell in 2015.
  • Kendall Brown (G, Baylor)
  • Brown (6-8, 200) tallied averages of 9.7 points on 58.4% shooting – 34.1% from 3-point range (14-of-41) – 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steal in 34 starts during his freshman season at Baylor. He was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school and finished this year on the Big 12 All-Freshman team, while helping propel the Bears to the Big 12 Conference Regular Season Championship and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Bryce McGowens (G, Nebraska)
  • A native of Piedmont, SC, McGowens (6-7, 180) averaged 16.8 points (ninth in the Big 10) on 40.3% shooting, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 31 starts during his freshman season at Nebraska. Coming out of high school, he was ESPN’s 26th-ranked overall player and finished his lone collegiate campaign with Third-Team All-Big 10 and Big-10 All-Freshman Team honors.
  • Isaiah Whaley (F, UConn)
  • Having wrapped up his fifth collegiate campaign in Storrs, Whaley (6-9, 230) averaged 7.7 points on 51.1% shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.2 blocks (fourth in the Big East) in 32 outings (31 starts) this past season. A former UConn teammate of current Charlotte Hornet James Bouknight, the Gastonia, NC native was the 2021 Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year after ranking 14th amongst all Division I players in blocks per game (2.6).
  • Trevion Williams (F, Purdue)
  • The 2022 Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year (6-10, 265) averaged 12.0 points on 54.7% shooting – 35.7% from 3-point range (5-of-14) – 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 37 outings (four starts) during his senior season at Purdue. A two-time All-Big 10 Conference honoree, Williams was a part of two Sweet Sixteen teams with the Boilermakers and won a gold medal for Team USA at the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Greece.
