Charlotte Hornets to Pick Ninth and 39th in 2015 NBA Draft

May 19, 2015 – Following tonight’s NBA Draft Lottery, the Charlotte Hornets will have the ninth and 39th selections in the 2015 NBA Draft, which will be held Thursday, June 25, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Hornets had just a 6.1 percent chance of receiving one of the top three picks in the Draft Lottery, with an 81.3percent chance of getting the No. 9 pick.

The 2015 NBA Draft will mark the second consecutive year and the fourth time in Charlotte NBA history that the team will have the ninth selection.  Last year, the Hornets received the ninth pick from the Detroit Pistons to complete a 2012 trade in which they acquired Ben Gordon and a future first-round pick from the Pistons in exchange for Corey Maggette. The team selected Noah Vonleh with the pick.

“We are excited about the prospect of adding another quality player to our nucleus,” said Hornets General Manager Rich Cho. “This is a deep draft with significant talent available.  We are very optimistic that we will add a player who will help our team continue to get better and fill a key role moving forward.”

Players selected with the ninth pick in recent years include All-Stars Dirk Nowitzki (1998), Joakim Noah (2007) and DeMar DeRozan (2009), as well as 2014 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge MVP Andre Drummond (2012).

Notable players selected with the 39th pick in recent years include Khris Middleton (2012), 2010-11 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection Landry Fields (2010) and 2009-10 NBA All-Rookie Second Team selection Jonas Jerebko (2009).

Over the past four NBA Drafts, Charlotte used first-round lottery selections on guards Kemba Walker (ninth overall, 2011) and forwards Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (second overall, 2012), Cody Zeller (fourth overall, 2013) and Noah Vonleh (ninth overall, 2014) while also trading for the draft rights to forward Bismack Biyombo (seventh overall, 2011).
