Warriors Guard Trio Combines For 68 Points in Win Over Pistons

Curry Scores 34 Points, Thompson and Paul Combine for 34 Points

Stephen Curry scored nine of his game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter in the Warriors 120-109 victory over the Pistons in Detroit on Monday. Klay Thompson and Chris Paul each chipped in 17 points as the Warriors move to 5-1 on the road and 6-2 overall.

The Warriors overcame a rough shooting night — hitting just 12 of 41 3-point attempts (29.3 percent) — by outscoring the Pistons by 20 points in the paint (52-32).

CURRY COOKS IN OPENING QUARTER
Stephen Curry, the NBA's reigning Western Conference Player of the Week, came out guns blazing in the opening quarter, scoring eight of the Warriors' first 10 points. Curry (16 points) and Thompson (6 points) combined to score the Dubs' first 22 points, outscoring the Pistons 22-19 over that stretch. Monday's 16-point quarter marked Curry's third this season, tying his season-high. He shot 6-for-9 from the field and 4-for-5 from behind the arc in the frame — he has hit at least four threes in every game this season (an NBA record through eight games).

OVERCOMING THIRD QUARTER WOES

The Warriors led by double digits in the first half but late in the third quarter, the Pistons went on a 17-3 run to take an 80-74 lead. The Dubs finished the quarter strong, however, outscoring Detroit 9-2 to finish the frame up 83-82. Dario Saric had six of the Warriors' nine points during this run, converting two and-1 layups.

CP3 PASSES GARY PAYTON FOR 37TH ON ALL-TIME SCORING LIST
On Monday, Chris Paul passed Gary Payton for 37th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Paul and LeBron James are the only players in NBA history with at least 20,000 career points and 10,000 career assists. Payton, an NBA Hall of Famer, was a nine-time All-Star in 17 seasons and averaged 16.3 points per game. His son, Gary Payton II, is Paul's teammate on the Warriors.

Paul scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists in 21 minutes of action. He has recorded 29 assists with zero turnovers over his last four games and has 62 assists with only six turnovers this season.
