Head Coach

Nick Nurse joined the Philadelphia 76ers as head coach on June 1, 2023. Nurse became the 26th head coach in franchise history, joining the organization after spending five seasons with the Toronto Raptors. He led the Raptors to an NBA Championship in his first season as head coach in 2019.

Nurse is an Iowa native and played college basketball at the University of Northern Iowa. Nick Nurse began his coaching career as a student assistant coach in his final season at Northern Iowa. Following that, Nurse spent a season as a player-coach for the British Basketball League’s Derby Rams.

He began coaching full-time at the age of 23 for Grand View University in Iowa. Since then, Nurse has coached for over 10 teams, including with the Iowa Energy (now Iowa Wolves) for the team’s inaugural year in the NBA D-League (now G-League). Nick Nurse helped the Energy win the D-League Championship in 2011.

Nurse then moved to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he coached from 2011-2013 alongside now-76ers President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, who was a part of the Houston Rockets organization. Nick led the Vipers to the D-League Championship in 2013.

Nick Nurse entered the NBA as an assistant coach for the Raptors in 2013, eventually taking over as head coach in 2018. He led the Raptors to their first championship in franchise history against the Golden State Warriors in 2019.

As of April 2024, Nurse holds an overall career record of 274-198 (.581) as head coach.
