2022-23 NBA Most Valuable Player Joel Embiid has starred for the Philadelphia 76ers since being selected third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. The seven-time All Star has averaged 27.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 31.9 minutes over 433 career games, all of which he has started. His splits include shooting 50.4% from the field, 34.1% from three-point range, and 82.6% from the foul line.
A native of Cameroon, Embiid grew up playing mostly volleyball and soccer before being spotted by former NBA player Luc Richard Mbah a Moute at a camp in 2011 and influenced his decision to play high school basketball in the United States. He enrolled at The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida and earned the opportunity to play in both the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoops Summit before receiving a basketball scholarship to Kansas University.
In 2021-22, “The Process” became the third 76er to win the NBA’s regular season scoring title (Wilt Chamberlain, Allen Iverson); the first seven-footer since Shaquille O’Neal (2000); and the only international player ever. His 30.6 per game average made him the first center since former 76er Moses Malone to average more than 30 for a full season (1982), and repeated the feat in 2022-23, scoring 33.1 points per game.
In the 2023-24 season, Joel Embiid continued his path to greatness, averaging 34.7 points, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 11 rebounds per game. The reigning NBA MVP was named a 2024 NBA All-Star, notching his seventh All-Star nod.
On January 22, 2024, Embiid penned yet another moment in basketball and 76ers franchise history, when he recorded 70 points over the San Antonio Spurs. Embiid’s historic night included 18 rebounds and 5 assists on top of the scorching 70 point performance. He surpassed all-time great Wilt Chamberlain’s 68 point franchise record with his indomitable power. Joel defeated his then-career-high 59 points against the Utah Jazz in November 2022.
