VJ Edgecombe was selected third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025 NBA Draft. He wears #77 for the Sixers.
Through his first few weeks in the NBA, Edgecombe has made quite the splash. In his NBA debut, VJ recorded 34 points in 42 minutes, the most by a 76er rookie ever. Edgecombe’s 34 points were the third highest points made by any rookie in their NBA debut. In his first seven NBA games, Edgecombe has averaged 19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.
Edgecombe joined the Sixers after spending one season at Baylor University. He was named the 2024-25 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year, the third consecutive year a Bear achieved that award. Edgecombe earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors after producing 15.0 points on 43.6% shooting, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.1 steals, and 32.7 minutes in 33 games. His 68 steals were tied for the fourth-most throughout the conference and set the all-time record by a freshman in program history.
Edgecombe led all Big 12 freshmen in scoring while also ranking third in both rebounds and assists among the conference’s freshmen class. He produced six games of at least 20 points, including a career-best 30 points on 8-of-13 shooting (11-12 FT) against Kansas State on Jan. 22, 2025.
A member of the Bahamian National Team at the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Edgecombe reached the 20-point mark in two of the team’s four games, averaging 16.5 points on 57.1% shooting (38.5% 3FG) and 2.0 steals in FIBA competition. He was also named the New York Gatorade Player of the Year in consecutive years from 2022-24, in addition to being selected as a 2024 McDonald’s All-American prior to attending Baylor.
