Tyrese Maxey was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and has averaged 18.2 points and 4.1 assists over 266 games through his first four seasons.
For his career, he’s shot 46.8% from the field, 39.6% from three, and 86.2% from the free throw line heading into the 2024-25 season.
In 2022-23, Maxey appeared in 60 regular season games, starting 41 of them, and averaged then-personal-bests in points (20.3) and steals (0.8), while shooting 43.4% from behind the arc. His three-point percentage ranked fifth in the NBA on the year and fourth all-time in 76ers history. In a game against the Raptors in Toronto on October 28, he set two then-career-highs, draining nine threes en route to 44 points.
The 2023-24 season was a breakout year for the fourth-year pro. Maxey recorded career-high averages of 25.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game. Tyrese was named a 2024 NBA All-Star reserve, won the 2023-24 Kia NBA Most Improved Player award, and the 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award.
On top of the well-deserved accolades Maxey received following his 2023-24 season, he also broke some of his personal records. Tyrese notched three games with at least 50 points during the season, including a new career-high 52 points on April 7, 2024 against the San Antonio Spurs. Maxey’s dominance continued into the Sixers playoff run, with a 46 point performance in Game 5 against the New York Knicks.
Before coming to Philadelphia, the Garland, Texas native starred at the University of Kentucky. In his lone season with the Wildcats, he averaged 14 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, earning spots on both the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week three times that season, and earned SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll recognition, too.
