HERRO SELECTED TO NBA ALL-STAR THREE-POINT CONTEST

The NBA announced tonight that Miami HEAT guard Tyler Herro has been selected to participate in the PepsiCo Three-Point Contest at the 2023 NBA All-Star Saturday Night event in Salt Lake City on February 18.

Herro will become the ninth HEAT player to be represented in the event, joining Duncan Robinson (2020), Wayne Ellington (2018), James Jones (2012 & 2011), Mario Chalmers (2012), Daequan Cook (2010 & 2009), Jason Kapono (2007), Glen Rice (1995 & 1991) and Jon Sundvold (1990 & 1989). Additionally, four different HEAT players (Jones in 2011, Cook in 2009, Kapono in 2007 and Rice in 1995) have won the event, the most players by any team in NBA history.

Herro has appeared in 45 games this season (all starts) averaging 20.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 35.3 minutes while shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from three-point range and 92.2 percent from the foul line. He is just one of three players in the NBA shooting at least his percentages from the field, three-point range and the line, joining only Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. Herro connected on nine three-point field goals on December 14 at Oklahoma City and followed that with 10 made from downtown on December 15 at Houston to become the first player in NBA history to hit at least nine treys in back-to-back games. He scored a career-high 41 points in the December 15 game to become the youngest player in HEAT franchise history to record a 40-point game, doing so at 22 years, 329 days old, surpassing the previous record held by Dwyane Wade on April 14, 2005 at 23 years, 87 days old. He made 63 three-point field goals in December, the most for any month in HEAT history, and connected on multiple three-point field goals in a career-long 12 consecutive games from November 30 through December 23, shooting 46.2 percent (55-of-119) over that span. Herro shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the line in the first half vs. Detroit on December 6, becoming the first HEAT player since the 1997-98 season to be perfect with at least that many attempts in each of those categories during a first half. Additionally, he has posted 25 20-point games, five 30-point games, one 40-point performance, two double-figure assist games, six double-doubles and a triple-double while leading the team in three-point field goals made 21 times, in points and assists 13 times each and in rebounds on eight occasions.

Other invitees include Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, Kevin Huerter, Damian Lillard, Lauri Markkanen, Anfernee Simons and Jayson Tatum.
