Sunshine and buckets…name a better duo! We sat down with designer Joanna to talk through her incredible take on Miami HEAT basketball with her latest Court Culture collection.
Talk to us about the inspiration behind your collection.
The inspiration behind my collection was tapping into my illustration side. I have always loved to draw and paint since I was little and wanted to show that area of my skillset.
That’s cool! How do you think this collection represents you as a designer?
My style of design is fun, clean, and filled with energy. I wanted to make sure that the collection had those same qualities throughout.
It definitely does. Do you have a favorite element that you created for this series?
Yes, my favorite element is what I like to call, “Reggae Palm Tree.” I am a huge fan of reggae music and wanted to create a design that represented Miami and the culture that it has.
Outside of the Reggae Palm Tree, are there any cool details that you’d like to talk about?
I made sure that the ball and flame design that I created was on each piece and used different ways. I wanted to make this detail consistent across the collection and make it show up as one.
What does “HEAT Culture” mean to you?
HEAT Culture means to give it your all. No matter what you do in life never give up and trust the process.
Favorite spot in Miami, outside of Miami-Dade Arena.
My favorite spot that I always make sure to visit when I’m in town is 1-800 Lucky! The vibe and the food are always great.
How cool is it for you to see a project that you’ve put so much work into come to life?
It’s amazing and surreal to design a collection that will live forever in Miami HEAT history. I had so much fun creating the collection and it will always be a highlight in my career as an artist.
What’s something you hope people take away when they see your collection?
I hope people feel excited when they see the collection and have fun styling it, making each piece their own. I hope people feel the same emotions I had creating it.
