The New Orleans Pelicans announced today the television and radio broadcast schedule for the second half of the 2020-21 season. FOX Sports New Orleans will broadcast 34 of the 36 remaining regular season games with play-by-play announcer Joel Meyers, color analyst Antonio Daniels, and sideline reporter Jen Hale.

The two regular season games not being televised by FOX Sports New Orleans are scheduled to air on TNT (March 23 vs. L.A. Lakers; April 20 vs. Brooklyn).

FOX Sports New Orleans will continue their coverage of Pelicans basketball on Thursday, March 11, as the Pelicans host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Smoothie King Center. The local television broadcast schedule for the second half of the season features 15 home and 19 away contests.

Pelicans coverage on FOX Sports New Orleans including PELICANS LIVE pregame and postgame shows and other Pelicans programming will be available statewide on cable and satellite providers. PELICANS INSIDER, the bi-weekly program featuring player and coach profiles, game highlights and behind-the-scenes footage will continue to air for the remainder of the season.

ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM will continue to air Pelicans Weekly on Thursday nights at 6 p.m. CT. The thirty-minute show hosted by Todd Graffagnini will feature exclusive interviews with Pelicans coaches, executives, and players, as well as guests from around the league.

Pelicans announce second half of 2020-2021 season broadcast schedule

New Orleans Pelicans play-by-play announcer Joel Meyers and color analyst Antonio Daniels gave fans a preview the New Orleans Pelicans' 2020-21 NBA season on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Dec. 16. The Fox Sports New Orleans broadcast duo was joined by special guests Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin, Coach Stan Van Gundy, forward Zion Williamson, and guard JJ Redick.

Griffin spoke about what went into the process of hiring Van Gundy.

"I think what we were looking for was a teacher," Griffin said. "Somebody that was going to be a dense, attention to detail, sort of accountability-driven coach that could sort of raise the young kids in that environment."

Van Gundy, who last served as the head coach and president of basketball operations of the Detroit Pistons from 2014-18, enters his 16th season as an NBA head coach.

"I'm really happy and honored to have this opportunity," Van Gundy said. "There's a lot of great coaches out there, and when you're out, you never know when your chance is coming again because there are so many people. I'm very, very fortunate to not only be back having a job but to have this job with the roster we have, with the front office we have, with the ownership we have, and with the city we get to live in."

Williamson talked about beginning his second season without a minutes restriction.

"As I begin my second season, I have a feeling of what the NBA is like now," Williamson said. "With Gundy as our coach and the assistant coaches he brought in, everything is a lot more detailed. And I'm continuing to learn as I go, and I can't ask for much more than that."

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today the television and radio broadcast schedule for the upcoming 2020-21 season. FOX Sports New Orleans will broadcast 34 of 37 regular season games.

The three regular season games not being televised by FOX Sports New Orleans are scheduled to air on national television: Feb. 21 vs. Boston (ABC), Feb. 25 at Milwaukee (TNT), and Mar. 4 vs. Miami (TNT).

FOX Sports New Orleans will begin their coverage of Pelicans basketball on Wednesday, Dec. 23 with the season-opener against the Toronto Raptors at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The local television broadcast schedule for the first half of the season features 18 home and 16 away contests.

Joel Meyers returns for his ninth season as the team’s play-by-play announcer, Antonio Daniels enters his second season as color analyst, and Jennifer Hale begins her ninth season as sideline reporter. Meyers, a two-time Emmy award-winning play-by-play announcer, brings more than 25 years of broadcast experience to the organization. Daniels, who played 14 seasons in the NBA including 61 games with the New Orleans Hornets in 2008-09, joined the broadcast team in 2019 after serving as a studio analyst for FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX Sports Southwest during the previous four seasons. Hale, an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award-winning journalist, is also in her tenth season as a sideline reporter for the NFL on FOX.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that WBOK 1230 AM, will be officially added to the extensive list of Pelicans Radio Affiliates starting on March 3 for the Pelicans match-up against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“As one of the owners of WBOK 1230am, a great legacy station here in New Orleans, we are thrilled to partner with the New Orleans Pelicans to broadcast the games of this great NBA franchise,” said WBOK 1230 AM Co-Owner Wendell Pierce. “As the team builds momentum towards the playoffs, together we will build a new broadcast tradition, not only in New Orleans but around the world. I live in Hollywood and New York, but there is no place like the Big Easy. We Won’t Bow Down.”

Expanding its digital footprint, WBOK will launch a brand new, state-of-the-art website with on-demand listening and a more user-friendly experience. With a push for greater predictability, the station will now have consistent programming from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. every day. Along with these updates, WBOK will premiere a new theme jingle produced and performed by Grammy award-winning artist and New Orleans native PJ Morton.

WBOK has revamped its programming lineup to add familiar voices to the station. The new programming will feature a variety of well-known, dynamic personalities on a consistent schedule. Pelicans announce radio partnership with WBOK 1230 AM

During a Friday appearance on the team’s flagship radio station, David Griffin was asked a question he’s probably getting multiple times each day: How is Zion Williamson and when can everyone expect the No. 1 overall draft pick to make his official NBA debut?

New Orleans’ VP of Basketball Operations noted that he’s encouraged by the progress that Williamson has been making, saying the 19-year-old is on schedule in his process to get back in uniform. He appeared in four preseason games, prior to being sidelined by knee surgery in mid-October. He was given a timetable of 6-8 weeks before he can return, but that ultimately could shift slightly.

“Where we are with Zion is he’s on schedule. He’s progressing exactly as we hoped he would,” Griffin said on ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM. “(In terms of a timetable), I think we’re on target for eight weeks. Probably not to the day, but in or around that.”

Griffin added that it may not be realistic to try to pinpoint an exact target date, saying it could move up or back somewhat, depending on how Williamson’s body reacts.

“If it’s nine weeks, that’s fine,” Griffin pointed out. “If it’s 10 weeks, that’s fine… if it’s seven weeks, that’s fine. But he’s in a really good space with his rehab. He’s back in New Orleans with our staff, using all of the things we have available to us in our facility. He’s getting better literally every day, so we’re really optimistic. And more importantly, Zion is really excited and that’s where we need him to be.”

The rehabilitation could reach another stage following New Orleans’ current road trip, which takes the Pelicans out West and will conclude Monday with a flight back home from Los Angeles.

“Once the team gets back to town, the coaches are going to put him through the mental part,” Griffin said, when asked specifically about incorporating Williamson into the system and making sure he’s not behind teammates in that area. “The physical part is easy for him. He has an incredible basketball IQ, he loves being a teammate and he loves getting better.”

Ultimately the Pelicans will weigh various factors and use tangible data over a period of time to determine when Williamson can be cleared and is ready to play in a game.

“It’s the doctor saying he’s at a certain point,” Griffin said, listing off markers before the OK is given. “It’s having certain hurdles he has to overcome, his fitness and readiness to play. We’re going to err on the side of caution, obviously, but there are going to be a great number of metrics we use to tell us where he is in his return to play. We’re certainly employing all of those metrics, to know that he’s on pace.”

Williamson will practice with the Pelicans before he can play in a game, with he and the Pelicans observing how his body responds to that initial step.
