Seventh State Farm Good Neighbor Club Set to Positively Impact Thousands of Edgewood and Kirkwood Resident

ATLANTA – In collaboration with the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm, City of Atlanta’s Coan Park Recreation Center hosted the grand opening of the facility’s new, one-of-a-kind Good Neighbor Club in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon. In a joint effort with City of Atlanta Parks &amp; Recreation Department as well as KultureCity, the world’s leading nonprofit organization on sensory accessibility and inclusion for those with invisible disabilities, the event featured remarks from Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as well as Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Atlanta Hawks legend and KultureCity Board Member Dominique Wilkins.

“Inclusionary investments like the Good Neighbor Club have the power to reduce disparities facing members of our community with sensory needs and disabilities,” said Mayor Bottoms. “Thank you to the Atlanta Hawks, State Farm, KultureCity and other partners for combining technology and compassion to ensure all Atlanta families have the specialized assistance, resources and opportunities they need to reach their fullest potential.”

This State Farm Good Neighbor Club marks the first and only Club that was done in consultation with KultureCity leadership, with assistance from Dimensional Innovations, a Kansas City-based experience design, build and tech firm with a nearly 30-year track record of creating immersive, engaging experiences for its clients.

“On a personal note, it is extremely meaningful to see this unique Good Neighbor Club at Coan Park,” said Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins. “We hope that this Club becomes a highlight for Atlanta’s residents.”

Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter was also on site and joined by kids from the local neighboring communities who participated in a free youth basketball clinic put on by the Hawks Basketball Academy.

The new State Farm Good Neighbor Club features a first-of-its kind multi-sensory inclusion space to provide a quiet area for students of different sensory needs, a new flat screen TV for gaming and movies, a video game console and iPads, mobile writing surfaces and classroom tables for homework assistance and large bean bags in a reading nook/open play area. A multi-sensory inclusion space, also known as a sensory room, is designed to be a calm space that includes sensory equipment for those who may have developmental or behavioral challenges.

“At State Farm, being a ‘Good Neighbor’ isn’t just a slogan; it’s at the core of who we are and what we do. As we see it, a big part of being a ‘Good Neighbor’ is continuously investing in our communities,” said Dan Krause, State Farm Senior Vice President. “We’re excited to build on our partnership with the Atlanta Hawks and show how much we care about our neighbors in Atlanta with the opening of this seventh Good Neighbor Club at Coan Park Recreation Center.”

This past August marked the three-year partnership anniversary between the Hawks and State Farm, who have led efforts in multiple community-focused initiatives to better serve Metro Atlanta. In addition to efforts to fight food insecurity locally, the Hawks and State Farm have now teamed up to open seven Good Neighbor Clubs in locations such as: William Walker Recreation Center in Atlanta, Lucky Shoals Park in Gwinnett, Lynwood Park in Brookhaven, Bessie Branham in Decatur, Ron Anderson Recreation Center in Cobb County, Welcome All Park in South Fulton and now Coan Park Recreation Center in Atlanta.

Since then, the two organizations have collaborated on high-impact endeavors such as: providing free pop-up grocery stores in partnership with Goodr Inc., for elderly and underserved citizens in Metro Atlanta during the pandemic, and expanding the Snack Pack Program which served over 24,000 snack packs to youth throughout the school year and during summer break.

The Atlanta Hawks and KultureCity have a relationship that dates to 2017, where the home of the Hawks became the first NBA team in the Southeast Division to have KultureCity certify their home venue as sensory-inclusive. Most recently, the Hawks temporarily converted State Farm Arena’s sensory-inclusive room to bring awareness to those with food allergies through a special activation with the Teal Pumpkin Project. In 2019, State Farm Arena was recognized by KultureCity as the Sensory Inclusive Venue of the Year. A new Sensory Room was created at the arena to improve the staff’s ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory processing needs.

ATLANTA – Prior to Friday night’s Atlanta Hawks game, the Hawks announced Jasmine Crowe, Founder and CEO of Goodr, an Atlanta-based social impact startup leveraging technology to reduce food waste and end hunger, as the second recipient of the ‘Forever 404 Honors presented by Sharecare.’ Throughout this season, the Hawks, who are playing in 12 ‘Forever 404’ nights, and Sharecare, the team’s official jersey patch partner, will recognize 12 local community members who are committed to serving Atlanta and embody a unique combination of cause, culture and community. Throughout these ‘Forever 404’ nights, the Hawks will wear its 2021-22 NIKE NBA City Edition uniforms and play on the corresponding court at State Farm Arena.

Jasmine Crowe is an award-winning social entrepreneur, children’s book author, TED speaker, and leader who is working to make the world a better place one cause at a time. Jasmine’s goal is to foster change and create awareness about the leading socioeconomic issues of today, including climate change, food waste, and hunger. In 2017, after years of feeding people experiencing homelessness from her own kitchen, Jasmine launched Goodr. Under Jasmine’s leadership, Goodr has redirected over 20 million pounds of surplus food from event centers, airports, and businesses to people who are impacted by food insecurity. Goodr has also developed an impactful partnership with the Atlanta Hawks to bring thousands of meals to families and students.

In support the Goodr Foundation, Sharecare will donate $1,000 to the organization’s Neighborhood Eats program in honor of Jasmine Crowe. In addition to receiving a donation to their organization of choice, each ‘Forever 404’ honoree also will receive four tickets to a Hawks game and a custom-framed Hawks 2021-22 NIKE NBA City Edition jersey.

Hawks Defeat the Indiana Pacers In A Tough Battle

ATLANTA – Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Nov. 22-28, the NBA announced today.

Young led the Hawks to a 3-1 record last week, averaging 31.3 points on 45-80 from the field, including a 15-29 clip from the three-point line, 8.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 32.1 minutes of action (.563 FG%, .517 3FG%, .833 FT%).

The fourth-year point guard posted 30-or-more points in all four games this past week, the longest active 30+ scoring streak in the NBA and tied for the second-longest such streak of his career. Young led the Hawks in scoring and assists in each of the team’s four games, while leading the Eastern Conference in points per game and finishing fourth in assists per game.

Young recorded back-to-back 30+ point, 10+ assist outings on Nov. 24 and Nov. 26, becoming the first player in the NBA this season to notch two consecutive 30-or-more point, 10-or-more assist double-doubles. He tallied a 31-point, 10-assist double-double on Nov. 26 at Memphis in only three quarters of play, leading the Hawks to a 132-100 win, tying their largest road victory since Feb. 3, 2016, at Philadelphia (+38, 104-72).

Over his four-year career, Young has registered 35 30+ point, 10+ assist double-doubles, tied with Larry Bird for 15th most all-time in NBA history and the most since the 2018-19 season. The 6’1 guard has tallied nine points-assists double-doubles this season, tied for the most in the NBA, while pouring in an NBA-leading 30-or-more points on nine occasions.

Young is the only player in the NBA this season to be averaging at least 25.0 points and 9.0 assists, ranking in the top-5 in points per game (5th, 26.0) and assists per game (3rd, 9.0).

Atlanta, 7-1 in its last eight outings, had won seven straight games before its Nov. 27 defeat, marking the then-longest winning streak in the Eastern Conference and second-longest in the league behind Phoenix. Young has led the Hawks to a top-10 spot in numerous statistical categories: .369 3FG% (3rd), .464 FG% (5th), 110.4 PPG (8th), .798 FT% (8th).

This is the fourth career Player of the Week honor for Young and his first of the 2021-22 season.

Additionally, the Hawks have unveiled its annual Black Friday promotion, in which select games are available during certain timeframes for a discounted ticket offering.

The Holiday Bundle includes two Hawks games, special-edition ‘Forever 404’ beanie and socks as well as a commemorative ticket. These ‘Forever 404’ -themed items and commemorative ticket are exclusive to this offer. Each bundle will allow fans to pick a lower-level seat at $175 and an upper-level seat at $75. Any Bundle ordered by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16 are guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas Day.

Fans can select their bundle from three different two-game combinations:

Did you ever see a picture of Cam Reddish next to a power forward on the Hawks or a center on some other team and think, "Wait a minute. Cam looks big. He's almost as tall as that player that is standing next to him. Did he get taller recently?"Given that he just turned 22 years old recently, the question begs asking of Reddish himself. Did he grow in the offseason?"I don't know. I think I was 6-8 last year. I think I'm still 6-8," Reddish said hesitantly. "I feel a little stronger, but I don't feel like I'm taller."Regardless of whether it happened recently or in years past, the Hawks are going to need both Reddish's length and strength as they navigate the next couple of months. Without De'Andre Hunter, who will miss approximately eight weeks following right wrist tendon surgery, Reddish – who has a 7-1 wingspan – is the longest option that head coach Nate McMillan can throw at an opponent's best and biggest wing players.In the Hawks' Wednesday win over the Boston Celtics, Reddish guarded Jayson Tatum when Tatum re-entered the game at the start of the second quarter against the Hawks' reserves. On Boston's first possession of the quarter, Marcus Smart tried to make a short perimeter pass to Tatum, but Reddish timed it and quickly shut off the angle, deflecting the ball away and gliding in for an easy basket.The play typified Reddish's 19-point, 3-steal effort to cap a week that saw the Hawks' bench lift its performance in four home wins. Head coach Nate McMillan likes having Reddish play with veterans like Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams."Cam got a hot hand and we started to feed him," McMillan said after the Boston game. "Lou did a good job of calling sets for Cam, and Cam did a great job of making plays to finish."

Reddish heated up in the second quarter of Saturday's win over Charlotte, too, scoring three field goals in a two-minute span. In the final minute of the fourth quarter, he hit the game-icing three-point shot and finished with 17 points.

Reddish leads the Hawks with 19 steals this season, and he has shined most on the defensive end of the floor in his 101 NBA games spread over 2-plus seasons. He causes the most pain for opponents in those spare moments when he can gamble for a planned pounce before recovering to his original assignment. Given that Reddish loved playing football almost as much as basketball and that he played as a safety (and quarterback), those pounces should not surprise anyone."That's probably why I get a lot of steals now," Reddish quipped with a grin about his days in the secondary.The wins over Boston and Charlotte were instances where it was easy to see him growing into his offensive game, too. "He's tough to stop when he tries to get to the rim," Kevin Huerter said. "He's so athletic. He's so long. He has got a lot of different moves when he gets into the paint. I think that is where he is at his best: playing downhill and getting into the paint."
