May 5, 2010 -- Chicago’s own Benny the Bull was recently named among America's Favorite Sports Mascots by Forbes Magazine.

Benny was ranked sixth overall and second most popular in the NBA, one spot behind the Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla. The San Diego Chicken finished first, followed by the Phillie Phanatic and Mr. Met to round out the top three.

“A 40-year staple in Chicago, Benny's national exposure grew during the Bulls' Michael Jordan championship heyday,” noted Forbes. “He's all over the local community, making over 250 appearances a year.”

Forbes compiled a list of the 10 most-liked sports mascots in America through research by The Marketing Arm, a firm that measures public attitudes toward celebrities and brands. The company polled the public on awareness, appeal and team recognition of over 50 major sports team mascots.
