MILWAUKEE (Apr. 21, 2025) – For the seventh consecutive year, the Milwaukee Bucks and Pick ‘n Save have teamed up to donate $50,000 worth of food to local Milwaukee organizations in support of Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.

In lieu of in-kind, nonperishable food products, the Bucks and Pick ‘n Save are distributing the $50,000 in the form of Pick ‘n Save gift cards to help alleviate immediate food insecurity and access needs in the Milwaukee community.

The Bucks and Pick ‘n Save will tip off the seventh year of donations by partnering with Silver Spring Neighborhood Center (5460 N. 64th St., Milwaukee) to launch a Kroger delivery and pickup site on Monday, April 21, at 11:15 a.m. Beginning April 21, members of the community will be able to order groceries online at www.picknsave.com or through the Pick ‘n Save app and have them delivered for free to Silver Spring Neighborhood Center every Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing affordable, fresh food to the community. As part of the initiative, Silver Spring Neighborhood Center will also receive $15,000 in Pick ‘n Save gift cards to distribute to community members in need.

In addition, Chef Imani Graham, owner of Mentionable Eats, will be on site on April 21 with samples of his mediterranean chicken and rice dish. Media planning to attend Monday’s event are asked to RSVP to Amanda.Janczak@Bucks.com.

“The Bucks are constantly seeking how to give back in more meaningful and deeper ways to the community,” said Arvind Gopalratnam, Bucks Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility. “Through our partnership with Pick ‘n Save, we’re able to support those who are experiencing food insecurity and provide the gift card recipients with relief, support and access to food.”

The NBA today announced Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez as the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for the 2022-23 season. Lopez is being recognized for his continued commitment to supporting youth literacy in Milwaukee. Lopez, the recipient of the March NBA Cares Community Assist Award, was named the winner of the season-culminating honor as determined by an NBA executive panel and a 12-day fan voting period on Jebbit. Lopez was selected among a pool of six other monthly Community Assist Award winners and three additional nominees selected by the NBA for their outstanding work in the community.

Since joining the Bucks in 2018, Lopez has made it his mission to make reading both fun and accessible. Throughout the season, Lopez contributed roughly $235,000 for books and funding in support of literacy initiatives within Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Lopez’s efforts are paramount in a state where only 39% percent of eighth-grade students are proficient or above in reading, and more specifically, within Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) where only 15% of fourth- and eighth-grade students are proficient or above in reading. The Bob Lanier Community Assist Award honors one player’s sustained efforts and difference-making work within their community over the course of the season.

As part of Lopez’s “Blocks for Books” program, Lopez donates $500 to Next Door for every block he records during the regular season in support of early childhood literacy. This season, Lopez donated $96,500 to Next Door as part of the program. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, Lopez partnered with Scholastic Book Fair to bring book fairs to five Milwaukee Public Schools. All five schools selected – Allen-Field, Bryant, Hayes Bilingual, Kilbourn and Pratt – are Title 1 schools that have never had a Scholastic Book Fair. Lopez’s contributions allowed each student at all five schools to select and keep five books, totaling close to 10,000 books for more than 2,000 students and roughly $75,000. Lopez also ensured that the schools were set up to receive Scholastic Dollars so they can purchase new books for the school libraries.

“Reading is a personal passion of mine that brings me joy and has played a key role in my success,” said Lopez. “Throughout my career, I have remained committed to supporting youth literacy initiatives because I know firsthand how important this skill is. Whether at home, in the locker room or on the road, reading has always played a significant role in my life. I want to ensure future generations are able to develop this skill too and fall in love with reading just as I have, especially kids in economically disadvantaged schools and communities. To be the recipient of the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award for my efforts in uplifting youth literacy in Milwaukee is truly an honor. Bob Lanier was committed to giving back in the Milwaukee community, so to be able to bring this award back to Milwaukee means so much to me and the Bucks organization.”

Lopez will be recognized as the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner during the June 28 broadcast of ESPN’s NBA Today.

The NBA Cares Community Assist Award honors the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson, who improved the community piece by piece. Bob Lanier, a League Office executive and NBA Global Ambassador for more than 30 years, had an enormous influence on the NBA family and young people globally, traveling the world to teach the values of the game and making a positive impact through his kindness and generosity. The legacy he built will continue to live on through the season-long Community Assist Award recognition, which honors the next generation of players’ commitment to positively impacting their community throughout the NBA season. To learn more, please visit https://communityassist.nba.com/.

$500 to be donated to Silver Spring Neighborhood Center each game Bucks bench scores 30 points

The Milwaukee Bucks Foundation and We Energies Foundation are teaming up for the fourth consecutive season of the Bench Mob Bonus program. Throughout the 2022-23 NBA regular season, each game the Bucks bench scores 30 points or more $500 will be donated by the We Energies Foundation to Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.

Through 23 games, the donation stands at $6,000 with the Bucks bench putting up 30 or more points in 12 games so far this season. The Bucks bench is averaging 31.6 points per game this season.

“We thank the We Energies Foundation for teaming up with the Bucks Foundation for a fourth year to help support Silver Spring Neighborhood Center in its effort to positively impact our community,” said Arvind Gopalratnam, Bucks Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Silver Spring Neighborhood Center serves families on Milwaukee’s north side by helping with education, employment, youth services and health and wellness. The funds will be used for its Layups and Literacy program, which layers reading comprehension, socialization and life lessons with offensive drills and defensive fundamentals to engage youth ages 10 to 12 on the court and in the classroom and provide academic, athletic and mentoring opportunities to young people.

“We are grateful for We Energies and the Milwaukee Bucks Foundation and their commitment to the youth we serve at Silver Spring Neighborhood Center," said Executive Director of Silver Spring Neighborhood Center Devin Hudson. "The financial commitment to our Layups and Literacy program creates an opportunity to emphasize reading alongside basketball fundamentals for the youth we serve.”

Established in 1982, the We Energies Foundation has provided nearly $200 million in contributions to programs and nonprofit organizations that promote education, community development, arts and culture, and the environment.

The We Energies Foundation is funded by stockholders of WEC Energy Group, not by the customers of its utility subsidiaries.
