WASHINGTON, DC – The Washington Wizards announced today that they have re-signed forward/center Taj Gibson. 

“Taj has earned his reputation as a consummate professional and loyal teammate,” said Wizards General Manager Will Dawkins.&nbsp; “We look forward to him adding to the competitive atmosphere when we begin training camp next month.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gibson returns to the Wizards after averaging 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 49 appearances (two starts) last season. He holds career averages of 8.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 945 games (449 starts) with Chicago, Oklahoma City, Minnesota, New York and Washington. The 14-year NBA veteran owns a career .518 field goal percentage and has shot at least .500 from the field in each of the past nine seasons (including a career-best .627 in 2020-21).

WASHINGTON, D.C.&nbsp;– To tip-off the 2023-24 NBA season, the Washington Wizards will host a Style Showcase presented by Michelob ULTRA on Wednesday, October 4, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at District Wharf Pier. The showcase is designed in collaboration with Ean Williams of D.C. Fashion Week. A mile-long waterfront neighborhood near D.C. with outdoor dining, local shopping, and activities along the Potomac River surrounded by views of the District’s famous monuments, the Wharf has become one of the premier destinations for entertainment in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

The entire Washington Wizards roster is expected to walk the runway, including Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Poole, Corey Kispert, Deni Avdija, Daniel Gafford and Tyus Jones. This year’s showcase will give a nod to the to the District’s fashion sense, featuring some of the season’s latest styles and looks from collaborations with local artists Chris Pyrate, SOMEWHERE® and DC Proper,as well as from designers showing their latest collections at D.C. Fashion Week.

Now that the 2023-24 NBA regular season schedule has been released for a few days, it's time to take a deep dive into the Washington Wizards' schedule. Here's a deeper look into the most interesting matchups, longest road trips, national TV games, and more.

For the second year in a row, the Wizards will open their regular season in Indiana against the Pacers. Last year, the Wizards got the better of the Pacers in the season opener, winning 114-107 behind Kyle Kuzma's 22 points and 13 rebounds.

This year, things will look a little different for both teams. The Wizards got younger, meaning this will be fans' first regular-season look at the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Bilal Coulibaly.

For the Pacers, they added some veteran depth and young talent to their roster. NBA Champions Bruce Brown and No. 8 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Jarace Walker highlight the team's offseason additions.

After the Wizards battle the Pacers in Indiana, they'll head back to Washington, D.C. to take on the Memphis Grizzlies in front of the DMV faithful. This will be new Wizard Tyus Jones' first chance to go head-to-head against his former team.

Just two days after that, on Monday, October 30, the Wizards will have another home game against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics.

Last season, the Wizards had a six-game road trip and a five-game road trip. This season, the length of the road trips has been cut down. The Wizards won't have any road trips of five games or more, but they will have four separate stints of four-straight road games. Here they are:

Last season, the Wizards' longest home stand was six games and it was a successful stretch. They went 5-1 during that home stand, beating Dallas, Utah, Memphis, Miami, and Charlotte.

This year, the Wizards will have another six-game home stand, but it will come toward the end of the season. Here's a look at those matchups:

The final home game of the regular season for the Wizards will be on Friday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. ET against Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and the Chicago Bulls.

After that, the Wizards will hit the road for their final regular season game of the season on Sunday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. ET against the Celtics.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Washington Wizards announced today the team’s four-game 2023 preseason schedule, which features two home games at Capital One Arena.

Washington will host the Cairns Taipans of the Australian National Basketball League at Capital One Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 10, to tip off the 2023 preseason slate and will follow that with a visit from the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, Oct. 12. The Wizards will conclude preseason play with a two-game trip with visits to New York on Oct. 18 and Toronto on Oct. 20. The team will begin regular season play on Oct. 25 at Indiana and will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 28 for the home opener.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Wizards announced today the four games that will comprise their Group B schedule for the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament.

As part of the In-Season Tournament, the Wizards will play four consecutive Fridays in November against their Group B opponents, beginning with a trip to Miami on Nov. 3. The Wizards will then take on Charlotte (Nov. 10) and New York (Nov. 17) at home before closing group play with a road matchup in Milwaukee (Nov. 24).

The team with the best record in Group B will advance to the knockout round quarterfinals, which will take place in NBA markets (one Eastern Conference team with the best record that finishes second in its group will also advance as a “wild card). The semifinals and finals of the knockout round will be played in Las Vegas on Dec. 7 and 9, respectively. Teams that do not qualify for the knockout round will play two regular season games on Dec. 6 and 8, with opponents to be determined. All NBA In-Season Tournament group play games, quarterfinal and semifinal games will count towards regular season records, with the championship being a standalone event.

All regular season Wizards games will be televised on Monumental Sports Network (with the exception of exclusive nationally-broadcast games). &nbsp;All games can be heard via radio on the official Wizards app, The Team 980 and WFED 1500 and outside of the DMV area on the Wizards Radio Network.&nbsp; The Wizards’ complete 80-game regular season schedule will be released on Thursday.

Wizards Announce In-Season Tournament Games

One new thing basketball fans can look forward to in the 2023-24 season is the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament. This is something that's been widely discussed amongst fans for years, and now hoops heads finally get to see it come to fruition. Here's how it works and how it affects the Washington Wizards.

The first thing to know about the NBA In-Season Tournament is that it will start with Group Play. This is the first stage in many tournament styles across sports, most commonly seen in soccer.

The Western Conference and Eastern Conference will each be split up into three respective groups. Those groups were drawn at random based on their regular-season record in the 2022-23 season. The Wizards were drawn into East Group B alongside the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets.

In Group Play, each team within their respective group will face each other one time (four total games). Two games will be on the road and two games will be at home. These games will start on November 3 and will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays in November.

Led by 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks have been one of the top teams in the NBA over the last half-decade. In those five seasons, they made Eastern Conference Finals twice and took home one NBA Championship. The Bucks are a consistent force to be reckoned with and that likely won't change in the 2023-24 season.

Going 47-35 and making it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the New York Knicks are coming off their best season since 2012-13 when Carmelo Anthony donned the blue and orange. Led by Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, the Knicks are one of the up-and-coming teams in the Eastern Conference looking to build on their success from last season.

Led by the dynamic duo of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, the Miami Heat have been one of the top teams in the NBA for the last four seasons, making it to the NBA Finals twice. This season, nothing has changed as far as expectations go. The Heat are still expected to be one of the top teams in the conference and are looking to achieve their ultimate goal of winning the title.

The Hornets are one of the younger teams in the Eastern Conference. Their young, star point guard LaMelo Ball has loads of talent and potential but struggled last season with injuries. He only played in 36 games, but he put up 23.3 points, 8.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds per contest. If he's healthy, they can be a dangerous team on any given night.

After Group Play, the team with the best record from each group (along with one wild card team from each conference) will move on to the Knockout Rounds. The Knockout Rounds are simple. They're a single-elimination, bracket-style tournament. Picture the March Madness Elite Eight.

Once the tournament is down to the final four teams, those teams will compete in Las Vegas on December 7 for the semifinals and December 9 for the finals. That night, the first-ever NBA Cup will be handed to the last team standing.
