Warriors Stumble in Home Loss to the Magic

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

The Warriors suffered their second straight home defeat, falling 115-101 to the Magic on Saturday evening at Chase Center.

Anthony Lamb set a new career-high with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with a Magic team that controlled the final three quarters of the game. Orlando held a 62-59 advantage at halftime but stretched the lead to double digits early in the third period and the Warriors never got closer than nine points for the final 20 minutes of game action.

Golden State Warriors Highlights vs. Orlando Magic

Magic rookie Paolo Banchero, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, led Orlando with 25 points and fellow big Franz Wagner had 24 points as Orlando shot 50.6 percent from the floor. Meanwhile, the Warriors shot just 37.9 percent from the floor, and they attempted 58 3-pointers, the most in a non-overtime game in franchise history.

“They took it to us all night,” Head Coach Steve Kerr said. “They were the more aggressive team … They controlled the whole game.”

RETURN OF SOME VETS
Andrew Wiggins saw his first game action in over a month, finishing with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes of game action. The 2022 NBA All-Star started for the Dubs and hit a 3-pointer on his first shot attempt of the game.

In addition, Andre Iguodala played his first game of the season after navigating a left hip injury over the first three months of the season. Iguodala, along with Anthony Lamb, was the first Warriors reserve to enter the game. He didn’t score but had two rebounds and an assist, along with the team’s best plus-minus rating (0) of any Dubs player who played more than two minutes.

CAREER NIGHT FROM LAMB
The Warriors were three-point happy from the start. Seventeen of the team’s 21 first quarter shots were 3-point attempts, and Lamb was the one making the most of them. The two-way player made his first four 3-point attempts – all in a span of four minutes – and he had 14 of his career-high 26 points in the first quarter. Lamb’s season-high entering Saturday was 17 points, and he has now scored at least 17 points in three straight games.

DIVINCENZO MAKES FIVE TREYS
Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo remained in the starting lineup, as Klay Thompson was a late scratch with left knee soreness. The veteran guard matched Lamb with five 3-pointers of his own, and those 3-pointers accounted for all 15 of his points. In addition, he added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the defeat.

UP NEXT
The Warriors are now 20-20 on the season, and they’ll close out the longest homestand in franchise history when they host the Suns on Tuesday on what will be Star Wars Night at Chase Center.
