WNBA Golden State has named Ohemaa Nyanin as the team’s general manager, it was announced today. In her role, Nyanin will oversee all basketball operations, inclusive of roster construction, team building and player development. Nyanin will report to Warriors Co-Executive Chairman and CEO, Joe Lacob, and will begin her tenure with the team on May 13, 2024.

“Ohemaa is the perfect fit to lead our WNBA basketball operations as we prepare for our inaugural season in 2025,” said Lacob. “As we moved through the GM hiring process, it became more apparent each day how impressive and well-versed Ohemaa is in all facets of the business, and as a person. &nbsp;She brings an incredible knowledge of the WNBA and international women’s basketball landscape from her time with the Liberty and USA Basketball. Additionally, she has a deep passion and desire to build a strong culture and, ultimately, win basketball games. We are thrilled to welcome her to Golden State.”&nbsp;

Nyanin joins WNBA Golden State from the New York Liberty where she spent over five years in a variety of capacities, most recently as the team’s assistant general manager. As assistant general manager, Nyanin served as the primary liaison between the basketball and business operations teams, assisting with free agency, trade, salary cap management, and extension of the roster. Her previous roles with the Liberty include director of basketball operations (2020-22) and manager of basketball operations (2019-20). During her five seasons with the Liberty, the team notched three WNBA Playoffs appearances, including a trip to the 2023 WNBA Finals as the second-overall seed.

“I am truly honored to be chosen as the first general manager of WNBA Golden State,” said Nyanin. “Throughout the interview process, it was clear that bringing a WNBA team to the Bay Area was meticulously thought out and those involved are motivated changemakers who will be proactive in growing the league. I look forward to joining this franchise and building a competitive basketball team that the fans deserve.”

Since 2016, Nyanin has served as FIBA Americas World Cup Qualifier Technical Delegate and Manager. Throughout her tenure, she’s held numerous roles, including the event lead of the 2024 Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Brazil, Co-Technical Commissioner of the 2022 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, and the Official FIBA Representative at FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier Games around the world.

Prior to her time with the Liberty, Nyanin spent five years as USA Basketball’s assistant director of the women’s national team where she led youth national teams to international competitions, managing delegation logistics and serving as a translator in Spanish-speaking countries. Nyanin played an integral role in the USA Basketball Women’s National Team winning a gold medal at both the 2016 Olympics, held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and the 2018 World Cup, held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

Born in Maryland to parents from Ghana, Ghanaian American Nyanin grew up spending time in five different countries: Philippines, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Chile and the United States. She graduated from American University with a Masters of Science in justice and public policy in 2011, after earning her Bachelor of Arts in international relations and foreign language and communications in 2009. She competed for American University’s women’s basketball team during her time on campus.

WNBA Golden State will be headquartered in Oakland and play home games at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Warriors’ Oakland Facility, which served as the Golden State Warriors’ practice facility and front office from 1997-2019, will be the WNBA team’s headquarters, housing a world-class practice facility and the team’s front office staff. The team’s brand identity will be announced at a later date.

The Golden State Warriors and Warriors Community Foundation hosted the 10th Annual Charity Poker Tournament, presented by MGM Rewards, on Friday, March 8, at Chase Center, raising over $3.5 million for the Warriors Community Foundation, a record high.

 The No. 10 seed Golden State Warriors will play the No. 9 seed Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on Tuesday, April 16 in the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament Western Conference 9/10 seed game, it was announced today.

TNT will have exclusive national television coverage of Tuesday’s game, which is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (PDT) tipoff. On the radio side, 95.7 The Game and the Warriors Radio Network will broadcast Tuesday’s game, with play-by-play announcer Tim Roye once again calling the action alongside analyst Tom Tolbert. In addition to the local radio coverage, the game will also be heard nationally on ESPN Radio.

In the other Western Conference Play-In Tournament game, the No. 7 seed New Orleans Pelicans will host the No. 8 seed Los Angeles Lakers. The winner of the Warriors-Kings matchup will travel to the loser of the Pelicans/Lakers game. That contest will take place on Friday, April 16 at TBD time.

Warriors to Face Sacramento Kings in 2024 Play-In Tournament

It was far from pretty, but the Warriors came through with the game on the line, using a 16-1 fourth-quarter run to pick up a 100-92 win in Portland on Thursday night. It was the Dubs’ 17th win in their last 21 road games, and the triumph keeps the Dubs in contention to improve upon their standing in the Play-In Tournament.

Playing without Klay Thompson (right knee tendonitis), Draymond Green (right knee contusion) or Gary Payton II (left calf tightness), Stephen Curry used a strong fourth quarter to finish with a team-high 22 points and eight assists. Jonathan Kuminga overcame foul trouble and had 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting and Andrew Wiggins added 15 points in the Dubs’ regular season road finale.

FOURTH QUARTER SURGEA one-point game entering the fourth quarter, offense was hard to come by in the early moments of the final period. Portland used their athleticism and pressure defense to limit the Dubs’ offensive looks, and it paid off with the home team taking a six-point advantage. Needing a boost, the Warriors turned to Stephen Curry to lead the way, and the two-time MVP came through. Curry had eight points and three assists during the game-changing 16-1 run, and on the receiving end of two of those assists was Kevon Looney.

The Warriors’ veteran center saw extended playing time and responded with nine points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes. But perhaps Looney’s biggest play of the night was a fourth-quarter steal. With Portland inbounding the ball underneath their offensive basket, Looney intercepted the pass and ignited a fast break that ended with Brandin Podziemski converting an and-1 layup. The play put the Warriors up by nine points with just over three minutes left, and the Trail Blazers never threatened from there.

SCOREBOARD WATCHINGThe Warriors’ win coupled with New Orleans’ victory over Sacramento brought the Dubs into a three-way tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with the Kings and Lakers. With each team sporting a 45-35 record with remaining games on Friday and Sunday, Play-In Tournament seeding and matchups are still very much up in the air, with the Dubs having the potential to finish the regular season anywhere between eighth and 10th place in the West.

RECOVERING FROM A SLOW STARTAn ugly start to the game had the Dubs 0-for-3 from the floor with five turnovers before a Stephen Curry 3-pointer marked the team’s first made field goal nearly four minutes into the game. And though they would trail by as many as seven points in the opening period, the Warriors responded with a 10-0 run. Jonathan Kuminga and Curry made back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite that spurt and Brandin Podziemski found a cutting Kuminga for a dunk to complete that stretch.

DUBS DEFENSE STANDS OUTA choppy, back-and-forth game with 15 lead changes and six ties, the Warriors never led by more than six points until their game-closing run. And despite their offensive struggles, they stayed in the game thanks to a stellar defensive effort. The Dubs tied a season-high with 13 blocks and held the Trail Blazers to 36.1 percent shooting from the field, a season-low for Warriors opponents. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Kevon Looney tallied four blocks apiece, and Wiggins and Curry added two swats apiece. Though Deandre Ayton had a big game with 25 points and 11 rebounds, the Dubs tightened their defense up when it mattered most, keeping Portland without a made field goal for a six-and-a-half minute stretch in the fourth quarter.

UP NEXTWinners of nine of their last 10 games, the Warriors will face the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night at Chase Center. Both teams will be playing the back end of a back-to-back, and both teams still have plenty to play for in these final two games of the season.

Warriors Finish Strong in Win Over Portland

The Warriors led for the nearly the entirety of the first three quarters but Minnesota came out hot in the fourth quarter and handed the Dubs a 114-110 defeat on Sunday. Down by three with 11.9 seconds left in the game, the Dubs had a chance to tie it, but a missed 3-pointer followed by a Minnesota free throw put the game out of reach.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference, as the Timberwolves made 21 3-pointers to just 14 for the Dubs. Stephen Curry knocked down five of those threes and finished with a game-high 31 points, and Klay Thompson was among four other Dubs in double-figures with 16 points.

Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards had 23 points and eight assists to lead Minnesota, and center Naz Reid shot 6-for-8 on 3-pointers to finish with 20 points as Minnesota out-scored the Dubs 36-29 in the fourth quarter to move within a game (49-22) of first place in the Western Conference.

With the loss, the Warriors fall to 36-34 on the season and are just a game ahead of the Rockets for 10th place in the West, and the final spot in the Play-In Tournament.

Naz Reid Carries Minnesota EarlyThe Warriors jumped ahead at the start of the game with a standout defensive effort, forcing nine turnovers in the opening period and holding Minnesota to 33 percent shooting from the floor. But the one player who gave the Dubs fits early was center Naz Reid. Playing extended minutes with Karl-Anthony Towns injured, Reid made his five 3-pointers in the game, accounting for 17 of Minnesota’s first 29 points.

Dubs Have an Answer EarlyReid’s hot shooting brought the Timberwolves back to within two points (31-29) in the second quarter, but the Warriors responded with an 8-0 run. Jonathan Kuminga scored the Dubs’ first six points of the second quarter, igniting that spurt with a Chris Paul assisted half-curt alley-oop dunk. The Warriors would lead by as many as 12 points in the second quarter and went into halftime with an eight-point advantage (54-46).

Another Career Milestone for CurryThe NBA’s all-time leader in 3-point shooting, Stephen Curry surpassed 3,700 career 3-pointers in the game. His fifth and final trey of the game tied things up at 104-104, but Mike Conley answered with a 3-pointer of his own to put Minnesota in front for good. Curry scored the final nine Warriors points of the game, bringing the Dubs within one on two occasions in that late-game stretch.

Minnesota Controls the Fourth QuarterThe Warriors had a three-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but consecutive turnovers to open the final frame resulted in Minnesota 3-pointers and the Dubs would never lead again. The Timberwolves open the quarter with a 19-8 run to take an eight-point lead, their first advantage since the first quarter, and they did just enough to keep the Dubs at bay down the stretch. Minnesota shot 21-for-40 (52.5 percent) from distance, as seven different Timberwolves players knocked down at least one trey.

Up NextAfter falling on a snowy day in Minnesota, the Warriors will resume their five-game road trip in Florida with a back-to-back set in Miami on Tuesday and Orlando on Wednesday.

The Warriors’ veteran trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson all had big moments in Saturday’s 128-121 road victory over the Lakers. With the win, the Dubs (35-31) moved ahead of the Lakers (36-32) for ninth place in the Western Conference standings. The Warriors are now 2-1 against the Lakers this season, with one more head-to-head matchup remaining on April 9 in Los Angeles.

Stephen Curry overcame a scoreless first quarter to finish with a team-high 31 points, Klay Thompson provided instant offense off the bench with 26 points and Draymond Green made plays all night, finishing with 13 assists and 12 rebounds in a much-needed win for the Dubs.

WELCOME BACK STEPH CURRYAfter missing the last three games with a sprained right ankle, Stephen Curry returned to action in Saturday’s primetime matchup. And though he was held scoreless in the first quarter, he got it going in the second period with 13 points and matched that in the third period. He came through with a 4-point play in the third quarter and about a minute later made a driving layup to put the Dubs ahead by 12, marking their largest lead of the game.

DRAYMOND THE PLAYMAKERThe Warriors trailed 36-30 at the end of the first quarter but took a one-point lead into the break thanks to a 9-3 run to close the second period. Draymond Green played a key role in that sequence, connecting with Jonathan Kuminga for a pair of alley-oop dunks in the final minute of the half.

Green, who missed Wednesday’s game with lower back soreness, was in the middle of all of the action for the Warriors. After the Lakers threatened a fourth quarter comeback, Green set up a Curry layup with the shot clock winding down to halt the Lakers’ momentum. Curry returned the favor on the Dubs’ next possession, as a Green bucket put the Warriors up eight with 4:07 left in the game. Finally, Green assisted Kuminga, 23 points, on another lob dunk, this one sealing the game with a little over a minute left.

KLAY LEADS STELLAR BENCH EFFORTWarriors reserves outscored those of the Lakers 47-25, and much of that had to do with Klay Thompson. The Splash Brother made three of his first four shots and had eight points just minutes after checking into the game. He maintained that hot hand through the second period and went into halftime with 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting in just 14 minutes of game action. He’d finish the night with 26 points, knocking down five 3-pointers in the win.

LEBRON SCORES 40 FOR THE LAKERSWith Anthony Davis exiting the game after getting hit in the eye in the second quarter, LeBron James carried the load for the Lakers, finishing with a season-high tying 40 points. He scored 13 of those in the fourth quarter, and nearly had more but his fading 3-pointer from the corner with 2:07 left was nullified after the official review determined he was out of bounds. The shot would have made it a four-point game, and the review wound up initiating a sequence that had 20 minutes worth over 15 seconds of game action. After the long layoff, the Lakers never threatened again.

UP NEXTAfter a 2-1 road trip, the Warriors will head home to host the Knicks on Monday. This will be the second and final matchup with New York this season, as the Dubs won the first, 110-99, on Feb. 29 at Madison Square Garden.
