Dubs By the Numbers: Wiggins Heats Up

Wiggins Record First 30-Point Game This Season, Hits Season-High Five 3-Pointers

The Warriors dropped three games last week, losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-114 on Tuesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-109 on Thursday, and the Thunder again 130-123 in overtime on Saturday. After starting 5-1, the Dubs have fallen two games under .500 at 6-8. There were some positive takeaways, however, including a career-high performance from Brandin Podziemski, Andrew Wiggins' best game of the season, and Stephen Curry's return.

Read below for a statistical breakdown of the week.

The Warriors are one of four teams that are 0-6 in their last six games, joining the Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs. They host the Spurs on Friday for an In-Season Tournament matchup. The Dubs’ six-game losing streak is their longest since February of 2020. While the Warriors lead the league in rebounding over this span (49.8 RPG), they rank second-worst in field goal percentage (41.8 FG%) and have the fourth-worst 3-point percentage (33.5 3PT%). With just one win at Chase Center headed into Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets, the Dubs are tied for the league’s fewest home wins this season.

The Warriors rank third in the league in rebounds per game (47.3) and second in offensive rebounds per game (14.3). Their work on the offensive glass has led to leading the league in second-chance points (18.9 2nd chance PPG). This past week, Kevon Looney recorded his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday and grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds against the Thunder on Saturday.

In Tuesday's In-Season Tournament loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brandin Podziemski and Dario Saric became the first Warriors duo to have both players score more than 20 points in the same game this season. Podziemski scored a career-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting and Saric scored 21 points on 6-for-15 from the field. Podziemski stepped up as a go-to scorer for a shorthanded Dubs team without their two leading scorers — Stephen Curry (injury) and Klay Thompson (ejection). Saric’s two highest-scoring games have come during the NBA’s In-Season Tournament, as he scored 20 points against the Thunder on Nov. 3.

The Warriors’ bench tied the second-longest streak in franchise history with 12 consecutive games of outscoring the opposing bench before losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The Dubs’ second unit ranks sixth in bench scoring, averaging 42.0 points per game. Jonathan Kuminga is their leading bench scorer, averaging 12.3 points per game.

Andrew Wiggins scored a season-high 31 points and hit a season-high five 3-pointers in Saturday’s overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wiggins’ five 3-pointers tied his total made threes from the previous 13 games. With Stephen Curry returning and hitting five 3-pointers, Saturday’s game marked the second time this season that the Warriors have had multiple shooters hit at least five 3-pointers (also accomplished by Curry and Thompson on Oct. 29). Wiggins joined the Splash Brothers as the only Warriors who have hit at least five 3-pointers in a game this season.

On Thursday, Chris Paul played in his 1,227th NBA game, passing Pau Gasol for 40th all-time in regular season games played. Among active players, only LeBron James (1,434 games played) has played more regular season games than Paul. In his 19th NBA season, Paul is averaging 9.4 points per game and 7.4 assists per contest. He has played in all 14 games thus far.

So far this season, the Warriors have used six different starting lineup combinations. Players who have started a game for the Warriors include Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, Chris Paul, Dario Saric, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. Wiggins is the only player to start in every game. Green has appeared in just five games this season and was ejected less than two minutes into Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, receiving a five-game suspension following that contest.
