Stephen Curry Named Western Conference Player of the Week

Reigning MVP Wins Third Weekly Award This Season as Warriors Improve to 22-0

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, November 30, through Sunday, December 6, the NBA announced today. The award is the third such honor through the first six weeks of the 2015-16 season for Curry, who was also named Western Conference Player of the Month for games played in October/November. The reigning MVP joins Klay Thompson (2014-15) as the only Warriors to earn the weekly honor three times in one season, matching Tim Hardaway (5) for the most career weekly awards in franchise history.

Curry led the Warriors to a 4-0 week by scoring a league-leading 34.5 points per game on 60.8 percent shooting from the field and 60.5 percent from three-point range, hitting 6.5 threes per contest. He added 4.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 34.5 minutes per game, totaling 138 points in 138 minutes played on the week. All four of Golden State’s wins came away from home as the team tipped off its season-long seven-game road trip, where the Warriors set a franchise-record by winning their 12th-straight road game and matched the NBA-record for best road start to a season (12-0 set by the 1969-70 New York Knicks). Golden State extended its NBA-record start to 22-0 overall, winning its 26th consecutive regular-season game dating back to the 2014-15 season, the third-longest win streak in NBA history.

Curry’s week was highlighted by back-to-back 40-point performances on Dec. 2 at Charlotte (40 points) and Dec. 5 at Toronto (44), becoming the first Warrior since Antawn Jamison in 2000 to post consecutive 40-point games. Curry, who leads the league with seven 40-point games, matched his single-quarter career-high in Charlotte with 28 points in the third frame, including a run of 24 consecutive points over the last 7:26 of the period.

The award marks the 39th time a Warriors player has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Detroit’s Reggie Jackson was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.
