Marreese Speights is about to get a bump in the amount of fan mail he receives. Already having the best two-week stretch of his Warriors career, the backup big man simply put the Warriors on his back in Sunday’s 91-86 win in Oklahoma City.

The first contest of a five-game road trip, the Warriors played a game that was anything but pretty. Both teams struggled to make shots, but the Dubs were the last team standing in this physical, grind-it-out matchup thanks in large part to Speights. The 27-year-old veteran tallied 28 points and seven rebounds, shooting 11-for-18 from the field in just 25 minutes.

With Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson struggling to make shots – the Splash Brothers combined for just one made field goal in the second half – Speights stepped up to say the least. Over an 8:36 span that bridged the third and fourth quarters, Speights scored 14-straight points for the Warriors. He’s now scored in double figures in four straight games, his longest such streak in his Warriors career.

Without the major contribution from Speights, the Warriors wouldn’t have been able to win this one. They were out-shot (barely) for the first time this season, and they were also out-rebounded. But they had just 10 turnovers to 26 assists, and they did enough on defense to hold the lead for all but a brief stint in the third quarter.
