GAME LEADERS

The Warriors advanced to 3-0 on the season on Sunday night, defeating the Trail Blazers 95-90 in Portland. Klay Thompson hit a go-ahead runner to put the Dubs up by one with 7.5 seconds to go, and Stephen Curry sealed the game with four clutch free throws in the final seconds. Thompson followed up a career-best performance on Saturday with 29 points against the Trail Blazers, giving him 70 points in two nights. Curry added 21 points and six assists, while Andrew Bogut recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

As seems to always be the case when these two teams get together, this one came down to the wire. While the previous two contests between Golden State and Portland were decided by a combined total of three points, this one had the Warriors down 90-89 with 14.5 seconds left. Golden State had regained possession at that time after a video review gave the Warriors the ball following a mad scramble for a loose ball. Thompson, who had missed an open three-pointer from the corner with just under a minute remaining, drove to the hoop from left to right and elevated for a right-handed floater that gave the Warriors a 91-90 advantage. Golden State then intercepted the resulting inbound pass, sending Stephen Curry to the line after he was fouled. Curry sank both free throws and then once again intercepted the desperation inbound pass. His two resulting free throws put the game out of reach, and the Warriors escaped Portland with a very impressive road victory.
