On Monday, it was announced that Target Center is a nominee for the Sports Business Journal’s Sports Facility of the Year Award.

For those who have been to Target Center recently, this comes as no surprise. But what a journey it’s been.

Target Center reopened on Oct. 12 after an 18-month, $145 million renovation.

The project included all new premium spaces in the Chairman’s Club, Lexus Courtside Club, TCL Theater Boxes and Club T.I. In addition, the entire premium level has been rebranded as the Treasure Island Resort & Casino Premium Level. The concourse and bowl renovations included a new state-of-the-art scoreboard, refreshed restrooms, new seats, upgraded sound system and digital signage. 

The exterior also undertook a transformation, with new paneling added around the entire arena and the addition of a three-story glass atrium and new Life Time Lobby anchoring the building on the corner of 6th Street and 1st Avenue. An additional skyway entrance was also added to the backside of the building that is open only on game-nights to benefit ingress and egress from the nearby parking ramps. 

For renovated arenas, the goal is for the building to feel new after. That’s not always the case, but the Target Center renovation met and exceeded expectations. The Target Center was originally built in 1990 and for it to be nominated for this award 28 years later speaks to the hard work and dedication that went into it.

Other nominees included: Little Caesars Arena, Notre Dame Stadium, SunTrust Park/The Battery Atlanta, T-Mobile Arena and U.S. Bank Stadium.

The winner will be announced in New York on May 23.

Minneapolis-St. Paul – Target Center was officially reopened Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, Council Member Lisa Goodman, Timberwolves &amp; Lynx CEO Ethan Casson, Timberwolves &amp; Lynx Chief Strategy Officer Ted Johnson, Target Center Vice President and General Manager Steve Mattson and Target Senior Vice President of Marketing William White. Minneapolis-St. Paul – The Timberwolves and Levy earlier today unveiled the new concessions menu for the renovated Target Center that includes several prominent local restaurant partners as well as chef-inspired and locally sourced upgrades to traditional arena fare. The overhaul of the menu was led by Timberwolves &amp; Lynx Executive Chef David Fhima in partnership with Levy.     “The Timberwolves &amp; Lynx are committed to building a world class guest experience and a huge part of that is the food,” said Fhima. “These new concessions menu items are delicious and also made with ingredients that guests can feel good about. We will continue to be on a quest to use the finest ingredients at Target Center, working with clean, sustainable and local products.”     Local restaurant partners and menu items include the renowned Parlour Burger from Borough and Parlour, the popular Sotaritos, sushi burritos, from SotaRol and the famous walleye sandwich from Lord Fletcher’s. Fhima will also have a dedicated restaurant space in the arena called Fhima’s which will feature free-range organic chicken tulips with a gorgonzola sauce. He will also make organic cookies through Mother Bakery available at dessert stations around the arena. For fans seeking lighter fare, Life Time’s Life Café will be serving tuna togarashi.     Fhima and Levy have put an emphasis on using high quality local ingredients in dishes served throughout the arena, including in fan favorites. This includes using locally sourced Swanson’s meats in the all-beef hot dog, kimchi hot dog, cranberry cognac bratwurst, whiskey peppercorn brat, cheddar and bacon brat and a loaded pork burger. There will also be Krispy Krunchy chicken tenders made with free-range chicken.     For beverages, the teams have brought on local partners in City Girl Coffee and Chankaska Wines. Local company Schwan’s will also have a presence, continuing to serve the Pagoda and Freschetta brands in arena.  A full list of where to find these menu items in arena is below:

David Fhima came on as the Executive Chef for the Timberwolves &amp; Lynx prior to the 2016-17 NBA season. He began with overhauling the premium level menus, as the arena renovations went through those areas, and has now transformed the concessions menus alongside Levy. Fhima’s culinary experiences and training have taken him around the world, working at prestigious restaurants such as L’Orangerie and Le Restaurant. He is currently staging his culinary work out of the former Forum Cafeteria which will reopen as Bistro 3.7.3 next year.     The arena will host its first public event when the Timberwolves host the Utah Jazz for their Home Opener on Friday, October 20.

Timberwolves and Levy Unveil New Concessions Menu for Renovated Target Center

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Target Center today unveiled the completed Treasure Island Resort &amp; Casino Premium Level, part of the renovation project for the arena. The grand opening for suite holders will be on November 1 for the Timberwolves home opener.

“The Timberwolves and Lynx are thrilled with the results of the newly renovated Treasure Island Resort &amp; Casino Premium Level,” said Timberwolves &amp; Lynx CEO Ethan Casson. “These beautiful suites and club spaces will provide an experience unlike any other in this market with high quality menu offerings, prime location seating for groups of varying sizes and plenty of open spaces for entertaining and socializing. We’re excited to activate our great partners in Treasure Island Resort &amp; Casino and TCL within these spaces.”

Along with naming rights of the entire level, Treasure Island Resort &amp; Casino will also have a strong presence in the reinvented Club TI. The expanded club space provides an all-inclusive experience with over 200 seats within the club itself and an additional 100 seats available in section 121 that receive access into the club. Club TI is also available for groups of 10 or more, giving corporate groups the opportunity to entertain employees or clients. Tickets in this section will be available with season ticket memberships as well as on a single-game basis.

New Timberwolves partner TCL will hold the naming rights for the TCL Theater Boxes, a new-to-market offering that no other venue in town provides. The boxes give those looking to entertain smaller groups the amenities of an all-inclusive club seating experience with the prime location of the sideline premium level.

Additional new spaces include the Chairman’s Suites, which are located along the sideline and include a private suite with a balcony and access to the Chairman’s Club. The club provides a gourmet dining experience with a complimentary bar that overlooks center court. Chairman’s Suites are set up for groups of up to 16 people.

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx announced their partnership with chef David Fhima to revamp Target Center’s food offerings as the arena undergoes renovations. “We are thrilled to have David join us as we undergo this very important part of the Target Center renovation,” said Timberwolves and Lynx CEO Ethan Casson. “Over the past year, many prestigious publications have taken notice of the cutting edge restaurants here in Minneapolis and have named our city as one of the top food destinations in the country. Our city’s local chefs have traveled all over the world to hone their craft and bringing David in-house will allow us to tap into that local, yet global food scene in a real, authentic way.” The new menu items will focus on using the best possible ingredients, which include clean, local, organic and non-GMO when possible. There will also be a focus on creating a more global menu that reflects the thriving international food scene in the Twin Cities. Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves &amp; Lynx today announced two new offerings on the Target Center suite level that offer an all-inclusive experience unlike anything else in the market, available beginning the 2016-17 Timberwolves season.

Drawing on inspiration from stadiums all over the country, the new Chairman’s Suites and Theater Boxes were created to attend to every need while providing a true metropolitan experience where guests can socialize, network and entertain. These suites and boxes focus on providing both a private viewing experience as well as open spaces to mingle with other guests. Both offerings are all-inclusive of food and beverages.

“We’re excited to bring these products to market and provide premium suite offerings for companies of all sizes,” said Ryan Tanke, Senior Vice President &amp; Chief Revenue Officer for the Minnesota Timberwolves &amp; Lynx. “The Chairman’s Suites and Theater Boxes provide the perfect venue to grow business relationships, reward employees and indulge friends and family with the backdrop of downtown Minneapolis.”
