Story Behind the Shot | Blessed to Play This Game

There are plenty of ways to tell a story - by word, by mouth, by sight. With this feature, Story Behind the Shot, we wanted to take a blended approach.

Every week, from now until whenever the 76ers' season ends, we'll release to you across our social media feeds and website our latest photo of the week, snapped by one of the several talented photographers we're fortunate to have on staff.

Each installment in this series will be contextualized with commentary from both a primary subject in the photo, and the photographer who took it, thereby bringing to you...the story behind the shot.

Again, be on the lookout out for fresh photos weekly, and check out the links a little farther down below for previous installments in the series. We hope you enjoy!

STORY BEHIND THE SHOT

Week of 1/7 - 1/13

Tobias Harris

76ers

"Right here, we're saying the Lord's prayer, which we say as a team before every game. We always start off with that. For us as a group, it's a way of coming together and acknowledging that we are so blessed to play this game, and that we're able to go out there and do this thing together. It's about collectiveness - bringing guys together from different parts of the world and different cultures to then go out there and be ready to have a great game. It's what it's all about."

Alex Subers

76ers Photographer

"The pre-game prayer huddle is probably one of the cooler moments I get to witness as a team photographer. The contrast between this quiet moment and the battle they are about to run into is pretty stark. As a photographer, there are moments when you need to be a fly on the wall, and this is certainly one of them. I always have my camera in silent mode during this moment, but even then I only really get a few cracks at this photo because I don’t want the sound of my shutter interrupting such a beautiful team moment. It typically ends with Ben or Furkan yelling 'Let’s go play some basketball!!!' in a funny voice to loosen things back up as they run out onto the court."
