Story Behind the Shot | A Better Purpose

There are plenty of ways to tell a story - by word, by mouth, by sight. With this new feature, Story Behind the Shot, we wanted to take a blended approach.

Every week, from now until whenever the 76ers' season ends, we'll release to you across our social media feeds and website our latest photo of the week, snapped by one of the several talented photographers we're fortunate to have on staff.

Each installment in this series will be contextualized with commentary from both a primary subject in the photo, and the photographer who took it, thereby bringing to you the Story Behind the Shot.

Again, be on the lookout out for fresh photos weekly. We hope you enjoy!

WEEK OF 12/31 - 1/6

Josh Richardson

"I feel like I've always been real even-keeled, real laid back. My mom and my dad would tell you the same thing. I've always been chill, kind of believe that everything happens for a reason. My mom first showed me that verse after my grandmother died when I was 12. That was tough for me. Her death was one of the first things I was kind of looking for something to cling on to, and my mom told me, 'Everything happens for a reason.' I have that saying tattooed on my wrist. When I look at the way my path to the NBA has gone - through high school and college - nothing has ever been easy. But, it always seems to line up in the end. That's how I looked at coming to the 76ers this summer. Miami was all I had known, but I wasn't stressed. At the end of the day, I told myself this is happening for a reason, for a better purpose."
