When the games begin counting for real Thursday vs. Utah, it will be difficult to predict exactly how large the roles will be for some of New Orleans’ youngest players. During the team’s scrimmages, however, several early-career Pelicans have gotten a chance to show what they can do against NBA competition – and the results have been very positive.

For a second straight game, youngsters such as Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jaxson Hayes and Frank Jackson contributed plenty of highlights and productivity, leading New Orleans to a scrimmage victory. That trio combined to score 50 points, as the Pelicans led nearly wire-to-wire for the second time in four days.

Zylan Cheatham’s and-one putback gave New Orleans a 107-90 lead with five-plus minutes remaining, as the Pelicans continued to keep the Nuggets at arm’s length. Denver trailed by 10 through three periods but never seriously threatened in the final stanza.

Alexander-Walker, who was one of the best players at NBA Summer League a year ago, turned in another big-scoring performance in July, this time notching 21 points, including 19 after the first quarter. The guard from Virginia Tech scored double digits in both halves, highlighted by a handful of driving layups. He also posted five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

“Using our speed against them really helped,” Alexander-Walker said of facing Denver’s supersized lineup. “But also the way we play. We play naturally fast, try to get out and run. We knew going against an all-big lineup played to our strengths.”

One team looked a lot like the one that had gelled into a cohesive unit by the time the NBA season was halted in March. The other bore zero resemblance to the squad that had won enough games to move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Facing an undermanned Brooklyn club decimated by injuries and other absences, New Orleans rolled to a Wednesday scrimmage rout, building a 21-point halftime lead behind some crisp basketball. The Pelicans shot 10/20 from three-point range prior to intermission and committed just three turnovers. New Orleans had five players muster double-digit points, despite the game only being 40 minutes in duration.

New Orleans built an 84-60 lead approaching the midway point of the fourth quarter. Duke products Frank Jackson and Jahlil Okafor came off the bench in the second half to generate major contributions in a modest allotment of playing time. They combined for 19 points, all in the final two periods.

E’Twaun Moore helped stake New Orleans to its sizeable first-half lead, dropping in floaters and draining three-pointers en route to a dozen points. He added a fourth-quarter layup to finish with a team-best 14 points on 5/8 shooting, including 2/2 accuracy from three-point range.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that Pelicans.com, the Pelicans Mobile App presented by Smoothie King, and FOX Sports New Orleans are teaming up to broadcast all three of the team’s scrimmages leading up to the 2019-20 NBA regular season restart.

New Orleans’ first two scrimmages will be available via live stream on Pelicans.com or the Pelicans Mobile App courtesy of Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, L.L.C. Streaming is limited to viewers within a 75-mile radius of the Smoothie King Center, per NBA regional broadcast rules. The livestream will be accompanied by the Pelicans radio broadcast on ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM.

The Pelicans resume play with their first scrimmage, presented by Entergy, on Wednesday, July 22 against the Brooklyn Nets. New Orleans’ second scrimmage, presented by Chevron, is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 versus the Denver Nuggets.

FOX Sports New Orleans will televise the final scrimmage on Monday, July 27 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Local television broadcasts will originate from the Smoothie King Center with play-by-play announcer Joel Meyers, color analyst Antonio Daniels and sideline reporter Jennifer Hale calling the games remotely.

Additionally, Pelicans games will be streamed on FOX Sports GO, which is currently available on mobile and tablet devices, including iOS and Android as well as foxsportsgo.com. FOX Sports GO is also available on connected devices including, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku Players and Roku TV, and Xbox One. ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM, the team’s radio flagship station and home of the Pelicans Radio Network presented by Smoothie King, will broadcast the team’s three scrimmages in addition to all eight seeding games remotely from the Smoothie King Center with play-by-play announcer Todd Graffagnini, color analyst John DeShazier and sideline reporter Caroline Gonzalez. ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM will also feature pregame and postgame shows with studio host Daniel Sallerson.

ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM will continue to air “Pelicans Weekly” on Thursday nights at 6:00 p.m. CT. The thirty-minute show hosted by Todd Graffagnini will feature exclusive interviews with Pelicans coaches, executives, and players, as well as guests from around the league.

Pelicans Host 2017 Open Practice

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Pelicans will host an open practice featuring all of the Pelicans’ players and coaches on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Smoothie King Center.  Doors open at 10:00 a.m. and the event is free and open to the public and will give fans an inside look at a Pelicans practice.

As Head Coach Monty Williams conducts practice, fans will get the coach’s perspective as he will be mic’d during the session and as the team faces off in the Blue vs. White scrimmage.

Garage 2 and Lot 3 will be offering free parking to attendees. No tickets are required to enter, but fans should enter at the Northeast Entrance next to the Pelicans Shop by adidas.

At the practice, fans can also purchase tickets for upcoming games. Full-season, half season or 12-game partial plans are all available, as well as the new Pierre’s Party Pack and Guys Night Out packages. Pierre’s Party Pack includes three tickets, three combo meals and an on-court free throw experience with Pierre the Pelican. Packages are available as low as $48 ($110 retail value).
