Sacramento Kings Announce Legacy Partnership with VSP Global

Sacramento, Calif. – Today, the Sacramento Kings announced their Legacy Partnership with VSP Global®, an industry leader in high quality eye care and eyewear products and services. As technology-driven enterprises, both VSP Global and the Kings are dedicated to developing and incorporating next-generation technologies to enhance and change how people interact with their data whether through sport or health.

This partnership demonstrates a shared commitment by VSP Global and the Kings to transform Sacramento into a hub for technology and incubator for innovation. For VSP Global that has manifested into The Shop in Midtown Sacramento, an innovation lab that launched the first wearable tech prototype from a healthcare company to seamlessly integrate health-tracking technology into a pair of optical frames. The eye care leader’s flagship optical manufacturing laboratory, VSPOne® Sacramento, is one of the world’s most technologically advanced labs where more than 400 employees craft up to 4,800 pairs of eyewear each day. And finally, the construction of VSP’s latest campus addition, a Google-esque style office building created to attract talent from Silicon Valley. This fall, the Kings will open Golden 1 Center, the world’s fastest, and most connected indoor sports and entertainment venue. The new arena will transform the fan experience by delivering a seamless, frictionless, and intuitive experience to fans from the moment they arrive at the arena, as well as the adjacent three-acre public plaza and the Downtown Commons (DOCO) entertainment and retail district.

"We are committed to investing in Sacramento and it is an honor to partner with a company like VSP that shares our vision for growing Sacramento’s global brand and giving back to the community,” said Kings President Chris Granger. “We look forward to working with VSP to serve the community in the years to come.”

“Our stake in this partnership is multi-faceted but is driven by one common goal – to keep pushing Sacramento forward,” said VSP Global President and CEO Jim McGrann. “Technological advancements and explorations are key to that progress. As a vision care company, we are reimagining how eye care and eyewear are delivered. As a region, it is clear that our attention must be kept with current and future innovators. Our eyes are set on Sacramento.” McGrann will expand on his analysis of the regional economy at the Sacramento Business Review on January 19.

This partnership builds on existing efforts to give back, including an annual Eyes of Hope® eyewear donation drive and VSP Mobile Eyes outreach events to provide no-cost eye exams and glasses. On an annual basis, the Kings partner with VSP to host the Eyes of Hope game where fans donate eyewear that is distributed globally. For every pair donated, VSP provides a comprehensive eye exam and glasses to a local child in need. One donation by a Kings fan results in two people receiving access to eye care. Working together over the last four years, nearly 3,700 pairs of glasses have been collected, helping twice that many people see.

Legacy Partnerships represent at least 10-year, strategic business relationships with a shared commitment to the community, further reflecting Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé’s “NBA 3.0” philosophy, which calls for using basketball as a positive agent of change in the community.
