Today, the Sacramento Kings announced that Golden 1 Center will host the fifth annual California Classic Summer League, presented by Ticketmaster, for players and teams preparing for NBA action. The San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, who hold the No. 1 and No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft respectively, will join the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat for an expanded Classic. Beginning July 3, the six teams will play a total of six games featuring rookies selected in the 2023 NBA Draft, sophomores and athletes competing to make NBA and G League regular season rosters. 

“We are thrilled to welcome the California Classic back to Golden 1 Center with two new teams joining the exciting lineup,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé. "This event is the perfect kick-off to the NBA Summer League, giving fans the opportunity to watch the next generation of basketball talent and enjoy a world-class entertainment experience.”

This summer basketball celebration – Monday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 5 – will feature a triple-header matchup each day with all six teams participating. Similar to other Summer League matches, modified game play rules will be in place, including 10-minute quarters. In addition, the two days will include exciting family friendly entertainment.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, June 1, Kings Season Ticket Members will have early access for two-day passes covering all games at Golden 1 Center and the option to add discounted admission to Fourth on the Field at Sutter Health Park. General public will be able to purchase passes on Monday, June 5 at&nbsp;Kings.com/CAClassic.

Team rosters, entertainment, fan activations, broadcast information and additional ticket options will be announced at later dates.

10th Kings Player to Receive The Honor In Franchise History

The NBA announced today that Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has been named to the 2022-23 All-NBA Rookie First Team. Murray is the 10th rookie in franchise history to be named to the squad and the first since the 2020-21 season.

Selected fourth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, Murray played 80 games (78 starts) this season with the Kings, averaging 12.2 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists through 29.8 minutes. A former Iowa standout, Murray became the NBA’s All-Time Rookie 3-Point Leader with 206 3-pointers made.&nbsp;

Earlier this season, Murray posted his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a win at the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 18 and followed up that performance with a then career-high of 29 points (10-12 FG, 5-7 3pt) and 14 rebounds in a victory over Oklahoma City on Jan. 20. He became the seventh rookie this season with 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in a game and the first Kings rookie with double-doubles in consecutive games since the 2018-19 season. For his outstanding performance, Murray was named to the 2023 Jordan NBA Rising Stars and earned Rookie of the Month honors in December and January, becoming the fourth Kings rookie to win the award in consecutive months and the fifth to earn the award multiple times.

Among rookies, Murray ranked sixth in points per game, ninth in rebounds, eighth in field goal percentage (45.3%), second in three point percentage (41.1%) and tied for fourth in total steals (61). His 42 blocks throughout the season ranked seventh across the league and ranked amongst the top 15 for most blocks by a rookie in franchise history and the most by a rookie since the 2018-19 season. Murray also finished the season with 976 points, ranking for the most points throughout a rookie season since the 2010-11 season in franchise history and 18th overall.&nbsp;

Throughout his first 40 games Murray ranked third in NBA history with 95 triples. He also saw a 3-point field goal in 32 straight games this season, which tied for the third-longest streak by a rookie in NBA history. Murray finished the season ranking second amongst rookies in games with five or more three pointers (11 games), which also ranked for the most in a season by a first-year player in franchise history.

Murray joins Tyrese Haliburton (2020-21), Marvin Bagley III (2018-19), Buddy Hield (2016-17), DeMarcus Cousins (2010-11), Tyreke Evans (2009-10), Jason Williams (1998-99), Brian Grant (1994-95), Lionel Simmons (1990-91) and Kenny Smith (1987-88).

Third Kings General Manager to Win the Yearly Award in Franchise History

The NBA announced today that&nbsp;Sacramento Kings General Manager Monte McNair has been named the 2022-23 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year. McNair is the third general manager in franchise history to win the yearly award, joining Joe Axelson (1972-73) and Geoff Petrie (1998-99, 2000-01) and is the second to receive the honor in the Sacramento era.&nbsp;

McNair received&nbsp;16&nbsp;of the 30 first-place votes and earned&nbsp;98&nbsp;total points from the voting panel, which is comprised of team basketball executives across the NBA. This is the first NBA Executive of the Year Award for McNair, who has served three season as the head of basketball operations for the Kings. Under his leadership, the Kings ended the 2022-23 season with the seventh-best record (48-30) in the NBA and finished third in the West to earn a postseason berth for the first time in 16 seasons and the best finish since the 2004-05 season.&nbsp;

Last May, the Kings hired Head Coach Mike Brown, who was named the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year and became the first coach in NBA history to win the award unanimously.&nbsp;McNair bolstered the Kings roster by selecting Keegan Murray with the fourth overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft. Murray earned two consecutive Rookie of the Month honors to become the fourth Kings rookie to win the award in consecutive months and the fifth to earn the award multiple times. In July 2022, McNair continued to strengthen the Kings’ roster by acquiring guard Kevin Huerter in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks and signing guard Malik Monk as a free agent. Huerter averaged a career-best 15.2 points per game and 2.9 assists in his first season with the Kings while also setting career highs in 3-pointers made (205) and 3-point field goal percentage (40.2%). Monk saw one of his best seasons throughout his career, recording the most points by a reserve during the 2022-23 season in the NBA (1,041) and the third-most by a Kings reserve in franchise history in a single season. In addition, Monk was one of seven players to record multiple 20-point games as a reserve (12 games) and finished the season ranking&nbsp;fifth in scoring off the bench (13.5) and third in assists per game (3.9) and in total assists (298) while knocking down 143 3-point field goals, which ranked for the third-most by a bench player this season.

McNair helped orchestrate one of the most prolific offensive teams in NBA history as the Kings had the highest-ever offensive rating (118.6) in league history and set the franchise record in scoring with a 176-175 win in double overtime against the LA Clippers on February 24. The game also marked the second-highest scoring game in NBA history. During the season, Kings center Domantas Sabonis set the Sacramento era record for the most triple-doubles in a season (14) as he and De’Aaron Fox became the first set of Kings teammates to be named All-Stars in the same season since 2004. Among league leaders, Sacramento ranked second in field goal percentage (49.4%), third in assists (27.3), fifth in three-pointers made (1,128) and ninth in three-point percentage (37.3%). The Kings also ranked first in true shooting percentage (60.8%), second in effective field goal percentage (57.2), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.02), eighth in net rating (2.6) and seventh in assist percentage (62.6%).

The NBA announced today that&nbsp;Sacramento Kings Head Coach Mike Brown has been named the unanimous 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year. Brown is the third head coach in franchise history to win the yearly award, joining Cotton Fitzsimmons (1978-79) and Phil Johnson (1974-75) and is the first to receive the honor in the Sacramento era.&nbsp;

Brown received (500) points (100 first-place votes) from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. The honor marks the second time Brown has been named Coach of the Year during his coaching career, including his first since the 2008-09 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Since the award’s inception in 1962-63, Brown is the 11th&nbsp;coach in NBA history to receive the Coach of the Year award at least twice in his coaching career.&nbsp;

In his first season as head coach of the Sacramento Kings, Brown led the club to one of the best seasons in franchise history. Brown guided Sacramento to the seventh-best record in the NBA this season and helped the Kings secure the third seed in the Western Conference, marking the Kings best finish in the West since the 2002-03 season. Behind Brown, Sacramento finished with the third-most wins in the Western Conference (48-34) and matched a franchise record for most wins on the road (25-16), which also ranked first in the Western Conference. He is the second coach in the Sac era to finish above .500 in a single season, joining Rick Adelman.

Brown coached the Kings to the highest offensive rating in NBA history (118.6) with the team scoring the most points per game by an NBA team in 40 years, which was last done by the Denver Nuggets (1983-84). For his efforts, Brown was selected as the Michael Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year after the Kings earned its first Pacific Division title since 2003.

Among league leaders, the Kings led the NBA in offensive efficiency and points per game while finishing second in field goal percentage (49.4%), third in assists (27.3), fifth in three-pointers made (1,128) and ninth in three-point percentage (37.3%). In February, Brown was named the NBA Western Conference Coach of the month as the Kings led the NBA with seven games where they scored 120+ points, which included a 176-175 win in double overtime against the LA Clippers on Feb. 24, marking the second-highest scoring game in NBA history. During the stretch, the Kings ranked first in the NBA in points per game (125.8) and offensive rating (121.2) and went a perfect 7-0 in February in games where they scored 120 points or more.

Scored the Most Clutch Points in 2022-23 Season and&nbsp;Fourth-Most Clutch Points Over The Last 10 Seasons

Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox has been named the 2022-23 KIA NBA Clutch Player of the Year, the NBA announced today.

Fox’s play in clutch situations led to him receiving 460 points (91 first-places votes) from a global panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote.

Fox is the first-ever recipient of The Jerry West Trophy after leading the NBA this season in clutch points (194), which are the most by a player since LeBron James (197) during the 2017-18 season and the fourth-most over the last 10 seasons. A 2023 NBA All-Star selection, he led the league in clutch points per game (5.0) and finished the season with 72 made field goals in the clutch, which ranked first in the NBA. Fox shot 52.9% from the floor in clutch time situations, the third-highest shooting percentage among players with at least 50 clutch field goal attempts.

In his sixth season, Fox helped lead the Kings to the most clutch points (508), highest scoring average (11.5) and best field goal percentage (50.7%) in the NBA this year. Sacramento’s 11.5 clutch points per contest are the most since the Portland Trail Blazers (11.6) during the 2006-07 season. In 44 clutch games in 2022-23, Sacramento went 25-19 (.568), tied for the sixth-most clutch wins in the NBA.&nbsp;

Fox totaled 547 points in fourth quarter play this season and scored 10 points or more in the final frame in a league-leading 26 games, including two games with 20+ points. He was one of three players this season with multiple 20-point fourth quarters.

Behind Fox, Sacramento ended the season ranked second in total points (2,356) and points per game (28.7) in the fourth quarter. The Kings also held the second-highest fourth quarter field goal percentage (49.4%) and 3-point shooting percentage (38.3%).

Annual Honor Recognizes Kings Player for Leadership On and Off the Court 

On Friday, before the team takes on the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings will recognize center Domantas Sabonis with the 2023 Community Crossover Award presented by Kaiser Permanente. The award, formerly known as the Oscar Robertson Triple Double Award, is given to a Kings player each year who excels both on and off the court while also making significant contributions to the community.

“I am honored to be the recipient of this year’s Community Crossover Award,” said Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis. “My family and I love Sacramento and this community and it means a great deal to us to be able to give back and support, especially our youth.”&nbsp;

This season, Sabonis and his wife, Shashana, launched the Sabonis Squad, adopting Caroline Wenzel Elementary school and providing support and supplies. As part of the Sacramento Kings 21st Annual Season of Doing Good presented by Raley’s, the Sabonis’ surprised students from the elementary after-school program and provided food courtesy of Dos Coyotes, coats courtesy of Old Navy and books to read over the holiday break. Students who finished their book were given a chance to win Kings swag and game tickets. In addition, the Sabonis family has provided PE equipment to the school.&nbsp;

To show his appreciation to the Sacramento community and Kings fans, Sabonis surprised individuals at a local barber shop (The 916 Cuts) and a community park (Franklin D. Roosevelt Park) with tickets to a Kings game.&nbsp;

In addition, Sabonis has excelled as a leader on the court, averaging 19.2 points and team-highs of 12.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. Along with leading the Kings, Sabonis is the NBA’s league-leader in rebounding, total rebounds (964) and double-doubles (65) while ranking second in triple-doubles (14) and fifth in total assists (568). He has helped guide Sacramento to a postseason berth with a 12.5 win shares rating and 9.5 offensive win shares rating, which both rank second in the NBA.

Sabonis will be presented the award by Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis and General Manager Monte McNair tonight before the Kings take on the Golden State Warriors at Golden 1 Center.&nbsp;

Inaugurated in 2003, prior award winners include some of the most recognizable figures in Kings team history, such as Chris Webber (2003), Vlade Divac (2004), Peja Stojakovic (2005), De’Aaron Fox (2019) in addition to back-to-back honors for Corliss Williamson (2006 and 2007), Garrett Temple (2017 and 2018) and Harrison Barnes (2021 and 2022). Today, the Sacramento Kings announced a variety of fan activations in celebration of the team’s appearance in the NBA Playoffs. This marks the first postseason run at Golden 1 Center and the return of the fan favorite “Feel the Roar” campaign from the franchise’s history. The Kings 2023 Playoffs will be presented by Dialpad.

“No one deserves this celebration more than Kings fans, and I know the atmosphere in Sacramento is going to be electric,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé. “We have an opportunity to play playoff basketball in Golden 1 Center and show why our fans are the best in the world. I can’t wait to see the entire city come together to support this incredible team and be part of the excitement.”

The Kings have secured home-court advantage for the first round of the Playoffs and will host up to four games. Following a 2-2-1-1-1 format, Golden 1 Center will host games 1, 2, and, if necessary, games 5 and 7. The opponent, dates and times will be announced by the NBA.

Season Ticket Members received priority access to Playoff tickets. General public single-game tickets will go on sale Monday, April 10 at noon. On Friday, April 14, the team will tip-off the Playoffs celebration with the opening of the Kings Playoffs Playground, presented by Kaiser Permanente, located at Ali Youssefi Square near the intersection of K and 7th Streets. This free fan zone will provide guests the opportunity to test their basketball skills, create a one-of-a-kind commemorative action figure of themselves in Kings gear, take a photo with the famed 6th Man Statue (formerly located at ARCO Arena), capture a video of themselves lighting the beam and make a custom cheer card. Select Playoffs merchandise will also be available for purchase. A game ticket is not required for entry into the Playoffs Playground, which will be open from 12-8 p.m. on game days, both home and away, with additional dates added at the discretion of the team.

Kings Announce Playoff Celebrations for Fans to Feel the Roar

Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray made his 188th 3-pointer of the season in the&nbsp;third&nbsp;quarter of tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers to pass Donovan Mitchell (2017-18: 187) as the NBA’s All-Time Rookie 3-Point leader.

Murray, 22, is the first player in franchise history to hold the All-Time NBA Rookie 3-Point record and is one of six players to record 180 3-pointers or more within a single season in franchise history. He currently ranks ninth in franchise history for made 3s in a season.

Murray currently ranks 11th in the NBA in 3-point field goal percentage of players who shoot more than six 3-point field goals per game. Among NBA rookies, Murray ranks third in 3-point shooting percentage (40.7%) and sixth in both scoring average (11.9) and total points (883).
