In honor of embracing that spotlight and replicating the past with the next successful era, Utah has reintroduced itself with four new uniforms and two new court designs for the 2022-23 season.

“Purple is back and here to stay,” said Jim Olson, president of the Utah Jazz. “This uniform collection features the return of our cornerstone color purple, which will be integral to our new designs in future Jazz seasons. Purple is beloved by our fan base and lives at the core of our identity. Alongside our newly painted courts, these fresh yet familiar looks speak to our great history and dynamic future.”

Purple has been embedded in the Jazz color palette since its inception in 1974 when the team played out of New Orleans. One of the three original colors of Mardi Gras, purple is what stuck around when the team moved to Utah, becoming one of the most iconic jerseys in NBA history with its prominent white-to-purple gradient mountain.

After making a brief appearance in the 2019-20 season as part of the Classic Edition uniform, the Purple Mountain will be here for the upcoming season as the design reflects the franchise’s proud history and hopes to replicate the next successful era.

But that’s not the only significant change to Utah’s evolution.

Owner Ryan Smith and the Jazz want it to be known that the organization will not shy away from the bright lights. In fact, Utah’s new uniforms reflect its proud past and prove that this is a team that will continue to loom for the spotlight.

The white and black uniforms symbolize the white and black keys on a piano, a key figure in the history of Jazz music. The yellow jersey represents the spotlight designated to the greatest performers in history, a nod to the fact that Utah embraces being in the spotlight with all eyes watching.

The uniform lineup includes a new “Dark Mode” with “UTAH” on the chest, a white version with the Note, and a yellow variation with “JAZZ” on the chest. Each kit features enlarged jersey numbers on the front and back, and retains the familiar angled side panels. The black shorts have JAZZ in satin shine material on the waistband, while the white and yellow shorts feature UTAH.

The neck, arm, and leg trim on all uniforms additionally feature a subtle matte/shine taping material — yellow on the white and yellow uniforms, and black on the black uniform.

The black uniform takes the recent “Dark Mode” jersey and pares it back to its two most contrasting elements. The musical note is prominent in the design of the white uniform, and the color is elevated to a sharp and striking level — resulting in a bold and confident look.

From the iconic purple uniforms worn by John Stockton and Karl Malone during their back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 1997-98 to the new era ushering in with a new head coach leading the way, Utah will be honoring the past while looking forward to the future.
