Hornets Waive Angelo Allegri, Tre Scott And Jaylen Sims

September 29, 2023 – President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced today the Hornets have waived forward Angelo Allegri, forward Tre Scott and guard Jaylen Sims.

Allegri played three seasons (2018-21) at UNC Greensboro before logging two years (2021-23) at Eastern Washington, averaging 8.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 24.0 minutes per game across 165 appearances (107 starts) in his collegiate career. He was named All-Big Sky First Team in 2022-23 after averaging a career-high 13.5 points per game. Allegri appeared in one game with the Hornets in the NBA 2K24 Summer League, tallying nine points in 15 minutes.

In three NBA G League seasons, Scott has appeared in 54 regular-season games split between the Salt Lake City Stars (2020-21), Cleveland Charge (2021-22), Ontario Clippers (2021-22) and Greensboro Swarm (2022-23), accruing averages of 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 32.1 minutes per game. In his 2022-23 campaign with the Swarm, Scott averaged a career-high 17.4 points in 10 games (eight starts). His professional experience includes two games with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2021-22) and two seasons overseas (2019-20, 2022-23). Scott earned multiple American Conference awards over the course of his four-year collegiate career at Cincinnati (2016-20), culminating with being named AAC Most Improved Player, AAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-AAC First Team as a senior in 2019-20.

Sims suited up for 31 regular-season games (four starts) with the Swarm in 2022-23, picking up averages of 11.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 25.4 minutes per game. He notched one appearance with the Hornets in the NBA 2K24 Summer League, contributing nine points in 17 minutes of action. Sims’ collegiate experience includes four seasons at UNC Wilmington (2018-22), where he averaged 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists across 112 games (70 starts). He was named All-CAA First Team as a senior in 2021-22, in addition to collecting MVP honors at the 2022 College Basketball Invitational.

The Hornets’ roster stands at 18 players.
