On Friday, March 17, Warriors Guard Ian Clark joined a Peaceful Warrior Summit at the Marriott Convention Center in downtown Oakland, educating 300 middle and high school students to behave as upstanders rather than bystanders. The 6’2 scorer joined Adobe, ADL’s No Place to Hate and Rise to Win for a panel discussion to inform students about personal bias, anti-bullying behavior, speaking up and being a witness when they encounter bullying in their schools and communities.

“It’s so rare for kids to hear from a variety of panelists about their experiences with bullying and how to overcome any situation they find themselves in,” said Clark. “I hope the kids learn something from this Adobe anti-bullying event and that they’ve learned ways to stand up for themselves and their communities.”

Clark spoke to the students about the importance of speaking out against bullying and being there for your friends, classmates and even strangers facing adversity.

“Today we are bringing together youth to celebrate difference, and to take a stand against bullying and violence,” said Adobe Community Engagement Manager Kim Chambers. “Bullying makes us feel that being different is a bad thing, but at Adobe we celebrate diversity.”

The Peaceful Warrior Summit also provided students with an opportunity so reflect and share what peace in their schools and communities means to them through creative and performing arts presentations. For the art exhibitions, the Bay Area students were told to reflect on what it means to be a Peaceful Warrior.

“We’re learning how to stop bullying in our schools, and having an NBA player like Ian Clark really motivates us to stand up against bullying,” said Pinole Middle School student Christopher Dolan. “One great artwork I saw was connecting social media and emojis to communicate with students who likely use and are familiar with the technology in our everyday lives.”

The Peaceful Warrior Project is part of the Golden State Warriors Not On Our Ground program, presented by Adobe. Not On Our Ground focuses on stopping hate and bullying as well as building inclusive communities. Not On Our Ground also provides a platform to address the issues around violence within the community in a safe and inclusive space where solutions and open dialogue are encouraged.

“When I was in high school I would have appreciated an event like this because bullying can be so isolating, and I’ve learned from experience that words hurt and leave long-lasting scars,” said Chambers. “I would have been really appreciated an event like this as a youth because it would have equipped me with the tools and feelings of empowerment that I needed to stand up to bullying.”

The participating Bay Area students at the Peaceful Warrior Summit received drawstring bags filled with assorted anti-bullying t-shirts, temporary tattoos, notebooks and pencils, courtesy of Adobe.

The Golden State Warriors will host Warriors Fan Night, sponsored by Adobe, during the team’s regular season finale on Wednesday, April 15 against the Denver Nuggets, the team announced today. All fans who enter Oracle Arena on Wednesday night will receive a special Warriors Fan Night t-shirt, courtesy of Adobe, which was designed by #GSWFanNight t-shirt design contest winner Ryan Vicente from San Francisco, CA. During the month of March, the Warriors invited fans to vote for their favorite t-shirt designs created by five Bay Area designers that they believe best symbolized Warriors Ground during the 2014-15 season.
