Golden State Warriors Named Best in Sports Social Media at the Webby Awards

Team Also Named Finalist For Best In Sports Social Content Series Webby, Shortlisted For Three Hashtag Sports Award Categories

The Golden State Warriors were named Best in Sports Social Media at the 27th Annual Webby Awards surrounding the team’s 2022 “Gold Blooded” playoff campaign. Golden State was also named a finalist for Best in Sports Social Content Series. The Webby Awards took place last night in New York City.

At the beginning of the Warriors’ 2022 NBA Championship run, the team launched Gold Blooded, a fresh playoff campaign for their first playoff run at Chase Center. Gold Blooded was a 360-degree campaign aimed to bring the Bay Area to the Warriors social media followers through unique content and behind-the-scenes access.

The Warriors’ 2022 Gold Blooded playoff campaign performed well against several measures of success, including:

  • Across all social platforms, the Warriors gained 3 million followers during the three-month campaign.
  • During the months of May and June, Warriors domestic social media accounts accrued 161.2 million engagements across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube – more than the rest of the NBA combined during that time.
  • Internationally, the Warriors’ Weibo account garnered 7.75 million engagements throughout the team’s Gold Blooded campaign.

Warriors social media accounts surpassed 69 million followers across all platforms earlier this month, making Golden State the most-followed team in the NBA. The Warriors also recently became the first North American professional sports team to surpass 30 million followers on Instagram.

Golden State’s social media efforts surrounding the team’s 2022 “Gold Blooded” playoff campaign also earned a finalist nomination for Best In Sports Social Media as part of the 16th annual Sports Business Awards, which will take place on Wednesday, May 24, in New York City.

Additionally, the Warriors were named finalists in three categories for the upcoming 5th annual Hashtag Sports Awards: Best Brand Experience or Activation, Excellence in Multicultural Storytelling and Best in Instagram. The Hashtag Sports Awards will take place in New York City on Wednesday, June 14.
