Starpower Stands Out on Warriors 2023-24 Schedule

Pacific Division Rosters Feature League-High 104 Combined All-Star Appearances

Amidst a loaded division stacked with starpower, the Warriors' 2023-24 schedule is filled with many of the league's most prominent figures. This past season, every team in the Pacific Division – Warriors, Lakers, Suns, Clippers and Kings – made the playoffs for the first time since the division was formed in 1970. No division has more All-Star appearances (104), All-NBA appearances (81), MVPs (8), or championships (32) among their active players. The Dubs are scheduled to compete against each team within their division four times (with the potential for a fifth matchup in the In-Season Tournament).

SEASON OPENER
The Warriors will open their 2023-24 campaign hosting the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 24. This game could mark Suns forward Kevin Durant's first game at Chase Center with fans and Warriors guard Chris Paul's first game against his former team. In their last head-to-head matchup at Chase Center, Klay Thompson erupted for 33 first-half points and eight first-half 3-pointers in a 123-112 Warriors victory.

MARQUEE CONFERENCE OPPONENTS
Phoenix Suns
After acquiring 13-time All-Star Kevin Durant at the trade deadline, the Phoenix Suns added another multi-time All-Star this summer, Bradley Beal. Based on their 2022-23 scoring averages, the Suns have the league's highest-scoring trio – Durant, Booker and Beal – combining for 80.1 points per game. In the Bradley Beal trade, the Suns traded 12-time All-Star guard Chris Paul, who eventually ended up on the Warriors. With Paul, the Suns made their first-ever NBA Finals appearance (2021) and set a regular season record for the most wins in franchise history (64 wins, 2021-22 season).

Los Angeles Lakers
With the Los Angeles Lakers defeating the Dubs in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals, LeBron James and Anthony Davis led them to their furthest finish (Western Conference Finals) since their bubble championship in 2020. This summer, the Lakers signed Davis to a multi-year extension while re-signing guard Austin Reaves, guard D'Angelo Russell, and forward Rui Hachimura. Reaves is currently on Team USA's FIBA World Cup roster, coached by Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr. Russell and Hachimura are part of a revamped roster post-trade deadline that helped the Lakers climb the standings and defeat the Grizzlies and Warriors, who had better regular season records.

Both De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis made All-NBA teams in the 2022-23 season, with Fox taking home the NBA's inaugural Clutch Player of the Year award. In addition, former Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown won the Coach of the Year award as the Head Coach of the Kings.

To complement Jokic, Denver has guard Jamal Murray, who led the 2023 playoffs in made 3-pointers (59), two ahead of Warriors guard Stephen Curry (57). The Warriors were the most recent team to defeat the Nuggets in a playoff series, beating them in the first round of the 2022 playoffs en route to a championship.

Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers were again plagued with injuries in the 2023 playoffs, but when their star duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George has been healthy, they have won over 70 percent of their games since teaming up (83-35). The Clippers acquired former MVP Russell Westbrook via the midseason buyout market and he was a bright spot in the playoffs, averaging 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists in their first round series against the Phoenix Suns. Westbrook and Leonard have each had competitive series against the Warriors deep into the playoffs. The Warriors' newly acquired guard, Chris Paul, played six seasons with the Clippers and is the franchise's all-time leader in assists (4023).

Forward Jaren Jackson Jr. led the NBA in blocks per game (3.0) en route to his first Defensive Player of the Year award. Adding defensive-minded guard Marcus Smart this offseason, the Grizzlies now have the previous two Defensive Player of the Year winners. Offensively, the Grizzlies are led by Ja Morant, their leading scorer (26.2 PPG) and playmaker (8.2 APG) last season. Although Morant will miss the first 25 games of the 2023-24 season due to suspension, the Warriors first scheduled matchup against the Grizzlies isn't until Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15. The Grizzlies and Warriors most recently met in the second round of the 2022 playoffs, with the Warriors winning in six games.

Luka Doncic (32.4 PPG) and Kyrie Irving (27.1 PPG) were the league's highest-scoring duo in the 2022-23 season, averaging 59.5 points. In addition, Doncic has the highest regular season scoring average of any player in NBA history when facing the Warriors (30.2 PPG). The Mavericks acquired Irving around the trade deadline via the Brooklyn Nets and he signed a multi-year extension this offseason to remain in Dallas. Dallas also signed Stephen Curry's brother Seth this summer, reuniting him with his former team and teammate (Irving). In their most recent playoff appearance (2021-22), the Mavericks lost to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

FIRST-EVER IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT
This upcoming season includes the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament, from Nov. 3 to Dec. 9. All 30 NBA teams will participate in the tournament, which contains a group stage – there will be six groups of five teams each, with each team playing every team in their group – and the knockout rounds, which will start with eight teams, including the six group winners and a wildcard team from each conference. The knockout rounds will be in single-elimination format, and the last team standing will take home the inaugural NBA Cup. The Warriors were placed in West Group C, along with the Sacramento Kings, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs.

West Group C is the only in-season tournament group that had four teams qualify for postseason basketball (play-in or playoffs) this past season. This group also has the most All-NBA representatives from the 2022-23 season (4; Stephen Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis).
