Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

It’s wheels up for the Dubs as they make their way to Tokyo, Japan for the very first time to play a two-game preseason set against the Washington Wizards.

The 2022 Japan Games will mark the first sight of Warriors basketball in 75 days, and the ninth and 10th games the Dubs have played outside of North America.

As the Dubs tip off NBA play in Japan, let’s look back at the Warriors’ international games through the years.

2022 | Japan

The Warriors face off against Washington Wizards in Tokyo, Japan to start off the 2022 preseason, marking both teams’ first visit to the country. The Dubs will open the preseason with back-to-back matchups on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, with Dub Nation getting a glimpse of the 2022-23 new look Warriors for the very first time. "We’re here to kick off the next tour to the next gold trophy,” Draymond Green shared after landing in Tokyo, making his first return to the country since winning a Gold Medal with Team USA in 2020.

2017 | China

Prior to this year’s Japan trip, the last time the Warriors were abroad was during the NBA Global Games in China in 2017. The Warriors finished 1-1 in their two-game slate against then-opponent Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves. In their first game in Shenzhen, the Dubs fell in a 111-97 defeat, but the team bounced back in their second meeting in Shanghai with Stephen Curry exploding for 40 points and sinking six 3-pointers in a 142-110 win. Fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson followed with a 28-point output, going 10-for-17 from the field and 8-for-10 from beyond the arc.

2013 | China

The Warriors met the Los Angeles Lakers in China in 2013. The Dubs finished 2-0 against the Lakers, who were without the late Kobe Bryant as the NBA icon was rehabilitating an Achilles injury. David Lee led the Dubs’ 100-95 victory in Beijing, posting 31 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Warriors followed their winning play in Shanghai, with Klay Thompson recording a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-for-14 from the field and connecting on five-made 3-pointers for a 115-89 win. Among other trip highlights that year, the entire Warriors team visited the Great Wall of China.

2008 | China

In 2008, the Dubs met the Milwaukee Bucks for a two-game slate in China. The Warriors went 1-1 against the Bucks, with the team falling to a 98-94 defeat in their opening matchup in Guangzhou. Kelenna Azubuike led the Warriors with 24 points and seven rebounds. During their second meeting in Beijing, seven Dubs recorded double figures to earn a 109-108 victory. Stephen Jackson recorded a team-high 24 points, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 5-for-9 from 3-point range. The Dubs squad enjoyed a handful of tourist attractions while overseas as well.

1994 | Spain

On the same tour in 1994, the Warriors participated in an exhibition game at Olmpico Pavello in Badalona, Spain where the Dubs earned a 122-104 victory over Joventut Badalona.

1994 | France

The Warriors joined the Charlotte Hornets on the 1994 Europe Tour at the Palais Omnisports de Bercy in Paris, France for their first game outside of North America. Chris Mullin recorded 14 of his 25 points in the second frame, helping lead the Dubs to a 132-116 victory. Warriors Latrell Sprewell (24) and Tim Hardaway (21) combined for 45 total points. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd of 15,324 fans.
