Warriors Come Up Short in Final Seconds Against Mavericks

Klay Thompson's potential game-tying 3-pointer in the game's final seconds hit off the front rim as the Dubs fell 116-113 to the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Tuesday night.

After a Dorian Finney-Smith missed free throw with 4.4 seconds left, Jonathan Kuminga secured the rebound and the Dubs immediately called a timeout.

Coming around a pair of screens, Draymond Green found Thompson on the inbounds pass, who got a good look from distance, but came up just short.

The Warriors offense struggled early, with the team falling behind 23-6 through the first eight minutes of the game. Kevon Looney scored all six of those points, making both of his field goals and adding two free throws. The rest of the team started the game 0-for-10 from the field and 0-for-7 from 3-point range before getting back on track and making six of their last nine field goals in the quarter to cut the deficit to 12 points.

Second Quarter Run

The Dubs trailed by as many as 17 points in the first quarter, but Golden State picked up the intensity in the second frame. Early in the second quarter, the Dubs went on an 8-0 run, courtesy of two Anthony Lamb 3-pointers and a Jonathan Kuminga lay-up. The Warriors outscored the Mavs 30-19 in the second quarter to cut the halftime deficit to one point. Kuminga recorded eight points in the frame on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, while recording four rebounds and a team-high plus-14 differential in the quarter.

Lamb Hits Another Triple

Kuminga's Double-Double

Jonathan Kuminga recorded his first double-double of the season, recording 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds in the loss. Kuminga's 25 minutes of action was his most all season in a game where the Dubs' regular starters were active. Kuminga was extremely efficient from the field, making 6-of-8 field goals and knocking down his only 3-point attempt on a night, a shot that cut the Warriors deficit to one point with 2:52 remaining.

Luka's 40-Point Triple-Double

Luka Doncic recorded 41 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, four steals and a block for the Mavs in the win. It was the 20th 40-point game in the 23-year-old's career, tying Dirk Nowitzki for the second most 40-point games in Mavericks history. Doncic finished with a team-high plus-22 in over 39 minutes of action. In his eight and a half minutes on the bench, the Dubs outscored the Mavs by 19 points.

Klay Passes Joe Johnson

Klay Thompson's fourth quarter 3-pointer with 6:29 left in the game moved Thompson into sole possession of 15th place on the NBA all-time 3-pointers made list, breaking a tie with Joe Johnson. Thompson now trails Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki by three 3-pointers for 14th all-time.
