Game Preview: Warriors at Suns - 11/16/22

DUBS ON THE ROAD
The Warriors head back on the road on Wednesday night when the team faces the Phoenix Suns at 7 p.m. at Footprint Center. The Dubs, who are 6-1 at home this season, have struggled mightily on the road to start the season. The Warriors are 0-7 on the road so far, their longest winless streak on the road to start a season since 1989-90. Making things more difficult, the Suns are 6-1 on their home court this season, outscoring their opponents by an average of 12.3 points per game at home.

Wednesday will be the second of four matchups between the two teams this seasons. The Suns won the first matchup, defeating the Dubs 134-105 on Oct. 27 in a game that featured seven technicals fouls and the first ejection of Klay Thompson's career.

BENCH SHOWS OUT
The Warriors' reserves scored 64 points on Monday on an incredibly efficient 60.1 percent shooting from the field and 60.2 percent from 3-point range.

"Being able to just get reps and get opportunities is helping us," Anthony Lamb said postgame on Monday. "And I think we’re gaining confidence in each other, and that’s the biggest thing that’s going to help us throughout the season and expand our bench.”

Lamb scored a season-high 17 points in the game, while Jonathan Kuminga added 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting. The second unit will get Poole back as Klay Thompson is expected to return to the starting lineup after sitting out on Monday.

"These guys are so young and that's why they need all these reps," Kerr said about Moses Moody and Kuminga on Monday night. "In the meat of the game, both Moses and JK and also (Anthony) Lamb, those guys did a great job.”

Kerr also expects veteran big JaMychal Green, who was a DNP in three straight games before Monday, to contribute more going forward.

"I think the bigger thing is finding the right combinations off the bench," Kerr said. "I think JaMychal (Green) -- I need to play him. I didn't do him any favors at all. Obviously, the last three or four games not playing him at all, but I don't feel I've put JaMychal in a good position to succeed in the early going and [Monday], he was much more comfortable playing the five instead of the four. I thought he was excellent. He’s a vet, he's a pro and he knows what he's doing. So he's got to be part of the rotation for sure.”

PHOENIX SCOUTING REPORT
Trailing by one point to the Miami Heat on the final possession on Monday night, the Suns missed three shots in the final 15 seconds to fall 113-112. Devin Booker scored a team-high 25 points, while backup guard Duane Washington Jr. scored a season-high 21 points.

After starting 6-1 this season, the Suns have dropped four of their last six games, including losing three of four in their most recent four-game road trip.

Chris Paul has missed the last three games due to injury and Cam Payne has filled his role in the starting lineup. Payne has averaged 18.0 points, 5.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game over the three-game span.
