The Warriors held their annual open practice on Wednesday, October 12 at Oracle Arena. Fans had the chance to watch the team run drills, shoot around and put on a show.
While getting a behind-the-scenes look at the squad is fun, the best part of the evening came after practice was over. Per team tradition, the Dubs rookies participated in a short talent show hosted by the one and only Stephen Curry.
Patrick McCaw then took the mic, and couldn’t help but feel the music.
This year the team decided that they wouldn’t limit participation to just the basketball players. “We’re gonna switch it up a bit,” Steph said to fans. Assistant Athletic Trainer Roger Sancho, who is in his first year with the Warriors, took the court to sing Kanye’s Testify and crushed it.
He had fans on their feet, players up dancing, and everybody cheering and laughing.
Not that much of anything could have followed up James’ performance, fans had hoped to see the Warriors newest superstar Kevin Durant.
Though Steph reminded everyone that he’s been in the league for 10 years, and is not expected to compete in a rookie talent show, he asked for good measure.
Hard pass.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get much better, they did. Guide Dogs for the Blind brought by their newest pup in training, an eight-week-old yellow Labrador Retriever names Klay, after the Warriors shooting guard.
It’s no secret Klay Thompson loves dogs – he’s the proud owner of an English bulldog named Rocco. So, naturally he needed to meet little Klay before leaving the arena.
“I love dogs and it is amazing to see how through the Guide Dogs for the Blind program they can really help change and save lives,” he said. “Rocco is one of my best friends… and I’m honored [they] chose to name their latest puppy after me.”
The cute is overwhelming.
No really. The cute is almost too much to handle.
