Steve Kerr And Staff Earn Western Conference Coaching Duties At 2017 All-Star Game

Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr and his staff will coach the Western Conference in the 2017 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 19, in New Orleans by clinching the best record in the Western Conference through games played Feb. 5, the NBA announced today. Kerr’s staff consists of Ron Adams, Mike Brown, Jarron Collins, Chris DeMarco, Bruce Fraser and Willie Green.

By virtue of the Houston Rockets’ 127-114 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks tonight, the Warriors clinched the best record in the Western Conference through games played on Feb. 5 among the 14 conference teams with a head coach eligible to participate in the 2017 All-Star Game. The San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich is ineligible for the honor because he coached the West in last year’s All-Star Game.

Kerr, who coached the Western Conference to a 163-158 win in the 2015 All-Star Game in his first season as a head coach, becomes the second coach in franchise history to earn the honor multiple times, joining Alvin Attles, who coached the Western Conference All-Star squad in 1975 and 1976. Kerr is the first coach to earn the All-Star nod in two of his first three NBA seasons since Phoenix’s Paul Westphal in 1993 and 1995.

Golden State owns an NBA-best 38-7 (.844) record this season. Earlier in the 2016-17 campaign, Kerr led the Warriors to a 12-game win streak from Nov. 7 to Nov. 28, tied for the third-longest winning streak in franchise history. On Nov. 18, Kerr earned his 150th career regular-season coaching victory, becoming the fastest coach to reach 150 regular-season wins in NBA history by doing so in his 176th game.
