Video: Brandon Roy's School Visit

Timberwolves shooting guard Brandon Roy teamed up with AT&T last week to provide the thrill of a lifetime for a group of elementary school students in Blaine.
Though AT&T’s “Win a School Day with Brandon Roy” contest, the three-time All-Star spent Tuesday afternoon at Northpoint Elementary School. Nita Hodney registered in the contest for her son, Dylan, by submitting her name at a local AT&T store. About 200 second grade students got the chance to play games and ask questions with Roy and mascot Crunch during the afternoon.
“Really, really excited,” Dylan Hodney said. “I’m probably going to burst into pieces when I get home here.”
Roy and Crunch played tug of war with the group and put together a performance at the event, some of which included Crunch’s famous dunking show. On a cold day that kept the kids inside for recess, the event was the perfect substitute for heading to the playground.
Nita Hodney said her son had been looking forward to the event all week.
For Roy, who joked Crunch got a bigger reception than he did when entering the gym, the event was all about connecting with area youth and giving them a chance to ask questions to and hang out with an NBA player.
“Really it’s the kids’ energy,” Roy said. “At first you don’t know what to expect because it’s so late in the day. But their energy was really great today. It got me involved right away. And then Crunch did a great job of getting me involved in some of the games. It’s just fun to hear their questions and talk to them.”
