Timberwolves Announce Training Camp Roster and Information

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today finalized the team’s 2023-24 Training Camp roster by signing guards Trevor Keels, Tyrese Martin and Daishen Nix. The team has also signed forward Matt Ryan to a two-way contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not released. The team’s roster stands at 21 players.

Nix, 6-5, joins the Timberwolves after spending the last two seasons with the Houston Rockets. Last season, he appeared in 57 games (seven starts) while averaging career-highs with 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 16.0 minutes per game. The Anchorage, Alaska native, has seen action in 81 career games (seven starts), all with the Rockets. Nix owns NBA career averages of 3.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 14.5 minutes per contest.

Keels, 6-4, saw action in three games last season with the New York Knicks. Prior to joining New York, Keels played in 24 games (all starts), with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G League, posting averages of 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 31.4 minutes per contest. The Clinton, M.D. native, was selected by the Knicks with the 12th pick in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2022 NBA Draft after one season at Duke.

Martin, 6-6, played in 16 games with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2022-23 season, averaging 1.3 points in 4.1 minutes per game. Additionally, the Allentown, P.A. native, saw action in 23 games (all starts) for the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League, where he averaged 18.0 points on 50.3% shooting from the field, 9.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 33.9 minutes per game, including a Skyhawks franchise-record 46-point performance against the Grand Rapid Gold on March 17, 2023. The 24-year-old was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 21st pick in the second round (51st overall) in the 2022 NBA Draft after being named to the 2022 Big East All-Tournament Team as a member of the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Ryan, 6-7, wrapped up his second NBA season by making 34 appearances (22 with Minnesota and 12 with the L.A. Lakers) averaging 3.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 9.1 minutes per game. He set a career-high with 22:25 minutes of action off the bench on Feb. 7 at Denver and tallied a career-high-tying 11 points on a career-high-tying 4-of-8 from the field, including a career-best-tying 3-of-7 from deep. Ryan also dished out a career-high four assists, besting his previous high of two (2x; MR: vs. Toronto on Jan. 19). The White Plains, N.Y. native has seen action in 35 career games with the Boston Celtics, Lakers and Timberwolves. He owns career averages of 3.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.

The Timberwolves will hold the team’s training camp at Mayo Clinic Square. Minnesota’s first practice will be on Friday, Sept. 29 at 11:00 a.m. with a suggested media arrival time of 1:30 p.m. Following each practice, the team will hold in-person media availabilities each day with Timberwolves players along with Head Coach Chris Finch.
