Garnett Among Historic Group Of 2020 Hall Of Fame Nominees

Talk about an absolutely star-studded Hall of Fame class.

Earlier this week, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 2020 Hall of Fame Finalists. The four most-notable names were Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Chris Bosh and former Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett.

Garnett will no doubt be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. In an era in which there were so many good power forwards (KG, Duncan, Rasheed Wallace, Chris Webber, Dirk Nowitzki, etc), Garnett was the best defender out of that bunch and helped transform the basketball scene in Minnesota. And while there's no stat for this, Garnett definitely played with more intensity than anyone in the history of the game. There was no "in-between" for Garnett. It was all or nothing.

In 22 seasons, Garnett averaged 17.8 points, 10 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. He led the NBA in rebounds per game four times. Garnett made 15 All-Star Games, was named the 2007-08 Defensive Player of the Year and made a total of 22(!) All-NBA Teams. Of course, Wolves fans will never forget Garnett’s 2003-04 season when he was named MVP and led the team to the 2003-04 Western Conference Finals.

Here are some of Garnett's impressive ranks in NBA history:

  • 7th in career games (1,462)
  • 4th in minutes played (50,418)
  • 10th in total rebounds (14,662)
  • 2nd in defensive rebounds (11,453)
  • 20th in total blocks (2,037)
  • 20th in total points (26,071)
  • 7th in Defensive Win Shares (91.48)

As far as Timberwolves history is concerned, if you're wondering who is the best player at a certain stat, chances are it's Garnett.
