Anthony Edwards Named to All-NBA Second Team

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The NBA today announced Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been named to the All-NBA Second Team. This is the first such honor of Edwards’ career and he becomes the sixth player in franchise history to be named to an All-NBA team (Kevin Garnett 8x, Karl-Anthony Towns 2x, Kevin Love 2x, Sam Cassell in 2003-04 and Jimmy Butler in 2017-18).

In his fourth NBA season, Edwards finished the 2023-24 campaign averaging a career-high 25.9 points on a career-best 46.1% shooting, 5.4 rebounds and a career-high 5.1 assists, becoming the first player in franchise history to average 25+ points/5+ rebounds/5+ assists in a single season. His 25.9 points per game are the third-highest points per game average in franchise history and Edwards is just the third player in franchise history to average 25+ points per game in a single season, joining Love (2x; MR: 2013-14) and Towns (2016-17). At 22 years and 253 days old, he ended the season with 2,049 points, 430 rebounds and 405 assists, becoming the fourth-youngest player in NBA history with 2,000+ points/400+ rebounds/400+ assists in a season with only LeBron James (three times), Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson doing so at a younger age (based on age at end of season). Edwards’ 2,049 points are the second most points in a single season in franchise history.

Making his second consecutive All-Star appearance after being named a 2024 All-Star, Edwards became the fourth player in Timberwolves history to be named to multiple NBA All-Star games. At the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis on Feb. 8, he finished with four points on 2-of-3 shooting, one rebound and one assist in 12:34 minutes of action.

The Atlanta native led the way for the Timberwolves on Apr. 9 against Washington with a career-high 51 points on 17-of-29 shooting, including 6-of-13 from deep, 11-of-11 from the line, six rebounds and seven assists. The Apr. 9 game marked his first career 50+ point game and he became the sixth player in franchise history to record a 50+ point game. Edwards became the sixth player in the NBA this season to record a 50+ point/5+ rebound/5+ assist game and the first player in franchise history to do so. In going 11-of-11 from the free-throw line on Apr. 9 against Washington, he became the fourth player in the NBA this season to score 50+ points and attempt at least 10 free-throws without a miss; he’s the only player in franchise history to record such a game.

The Timberwolves ended the 2023-24 season with a 56-26 record, the second-highest win total in franchise history. Minnesota secured the third seed in the Western Conference, marking the third consecutive year clinching a spot in the NBA Playoffs, the most consecutive seasons making the playoffs since eight straight appearances from 1996-2004. Minnesota won an NBA-best 37 games against Western Conference opponents, the most wins against the West in Timberwolves history. The Wolves led the Western Conference this season with 26 road victories, the second-most road wins in franchise history (27 in 2003-04). Minnesota finished the season 12-4 against Northwest Division opponents, tied for the most wins in team history against division foes (12 in 2021-22).
