P.J. Tucker
PJ Tucker, born Anthony Leon Tucker Jr., was selected 35th overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2006 NBA Draft. He played overseas for five seasons (2007-12) and spent time with the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, and Milwaukee Bucks before signing in Philadelphia in July 2022.
Through the conclusion of the 2022-23 regular season Tucker appeared in 852 games during his 12-year NBA career, starting in 656 and averaging 6.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 28.7 minutes per game while shooting 42.5% from the field, 36.6% from three-point range, and 74.9% from the foul line. In his first season with the Sixers in 2022-23, he appeared in 75 games, starting all of them, and posted a three-point shooting percentage of 39.3, the fourth highest of his professional career. He posted a season-high 16-rebound performance on February 25 against the Boston Celtics and recorded 14 games with more than one three-pointer. On the defensive end, he held opponents to 2% under their season field goal percentage.
The ”P.J.” nickname stands for “Pops Junior”, given to him at birth by his father. Thanks to his international play, Tucker is fluent in Hebrew and lists Tel Aviv as his favorite travel destination. Tucker’s sneaker collection is among the league’s best, and he estimates that he owns over 1,000 pairs. In April 2023, P.J. teamed up with the Sixers Youth Foundation, auctioning off several pairs, including exclusive editions of the Air Jordan 3, LeBron 7, and Kobe 6.
