Five things to know about the Pelicans on Aug. 9

1) After an official nickname change, the draft lottery, the draft itself, Las Vegas summer league, USA Basketball minicamp, a uniform unveiling, the 2013-14 schedule release and dance team tryouts, we’ve finally reached a relatively quiet portion of the offseason. Basketball-wise, the next major date to know is Sept. 30, when most NBA teams will hold media day. Many clubs will open training camp the next day, Oct. 1.
2) The Pelicans’ preseason schedule will be released soon, as well as that of the entire NBA. Here's the team's regular season schedule.
3) Among various upcoming off-the-court announcements, the team’s new mascot will be unveiled at some point prior to the season.
