The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Washington Wizards in double overtime 84-81 at the MGM Resorts Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Thursday.

There were 12 ties and 16 lead changes in the game, and it took two overtime sessions to determine a winner. Cam Thomas was the hero for Brooklyn, hitting a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime and knocking down another trey in the sudden death double OT. The Nets outrebounded the Wizards 71-48. In addition, Brooklyn’s starters outscored Washington’s starters 54-29.

No Wizards starter scored in double figures. Jaime Echenique was Washington’s leading scorer off the bench, providing 17 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Austin Hollins and Mason Jones reached double figures in scoring off the bench as well, scoring 13 points apiece. Xavier Rathan-Mayes tallied five points, six rebounds and nine assists as the starting point guard.

Cam Thomas led the Nets with 31 points, three rebounds and two steals. Kessler Edwards led the bench with 14 points and nine rebounds. Kaiser Gates amassed nine points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Day’Ron Sharpe collected four points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

Both teams are off until Sunday, with Brooklyn playing the San Antonio Spurs and Washington facing the Milwaukee Bucks.
