ORLANDO – Lights, Camera, Action!

That will be the catch phrase in the Bahamas this week as the 2015-16 Orlando Magic Dancer Audition finalists make their way to the island.

The Baha Mar Casino and Hotel in Nassau will host this year’s final auditions, which will include a swimwear photo shoot, a swimwear walk, fitness assessments and one final opportunity for each finalist to perform a dance routine for a panel of judges. Fans can watch finals live on OrlandoMagic.com on Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Also, you can vote for your favorite dancers until the halfway point of finals.

“This audition experience has been quite eventful,” said finalist and veteran candidate Victoria R., who hopes to be named a Magic Dancer for a seventh straight season. “We all want to make a good impression for the new sponsors, the Baha Mar, and so this is exciting and there is so much talent here.”

Over the past week, the 28 finalists have been working hard prepping for what’s ahead. They also have been showcasing their skills for judges during interviews, fitness classes and dance rehearsals.

While it’s undeniably competitive – only 20 dancers will be named to the team – all of the finalists are enjoying this opportunity to bond with one another and learn from Magic Dancer alumni and professional dance choreographers.

“Everyone is extremely talented here,” said rookie candidate Zuli, who was a finalist in 2013. “I have gotten to know all the lovely girls. Everyone can bring something to the table for the team.”

While dancing is their passion, there is plenty more that motivates finalists during this audition process. They are all enthusiastic about being community ambassadors. They light up when thinking about being a part of a lifelong sisterhood. They marvel at the friendships that are formed amongst members of the squad. They are excited to meet or, for returning candidates, be reacquainted with all the Magic fans.

On Sunday, each finalist got a chance to accentuate their personalities for judges. Six former Magic Dancers asked a variety of questions to this year’s candidates ranging from why they want to be a Magic Dancer to basketball-related trivia.

“It was a little nerve-racking at first but it was a lot of fun,” said rookie candidate Jessica, who was born and raised in Orlando. “It was great to learn about all the alumni and finalists.”

With the Orlando-based activities complete, it’s now time for each finalist to gear up – physically and mentally – for the trip of a lifetime. While getting some sun and enjoying the sound of the waves from the ocean ripple through are inevitable aspects of a stay in the Bahamas, each finalist understands what’s at stake and what they hope to accomplish.
